Omg This Is Awesome!

OKAY, SO I GOT THIS EMAIL TODAY :) And im excited but it might not really help me since i dont think i want to apply their early but..........

Dear XXXXXXX,

Please accept my sincerest apology for the School of Engineering email sent to you in error last Friday regarding the Rensselaer Medal. At this time of high stress for high school students, the last thing we would ever intentionally do is add angst to your college search process. We take our role in counseling students through the admissions process very seriously and I am disappointed if Rensselaer did not communicate the level of concern and regret that this situation warranted. We do have multiple checks in our process for interacting with students but a staff member made a significant mistake. We are adding additional processes to ensure that something like this NEVER happens again.

Several of you asked for clarification regarding the medal award. The Rensselaer Medal is an award given in the spring of the junior year to an outstanding student in mathematics and science. The medal recipient is selected by the high school guidance department and the notification to the student is usually made before the end of the junior year. This award is just one of the ways we recognize outstanding students.

I understand the disappointment felt by those of you who have considered Rensselaer to be one of your top-choice schools or who had hoped to receive the medal and did not. For this reason, I have allocated additional funds to our financial aid office in an effort to provide some relief to those of you most affected by our error. Any student who received the erroneous email, who applies under one of our early programs and who is admitted to Rensselaer, will be guaranteed a four-year $60,000 (15,000 per year) Leadership Scholarship (as a replacement scholarship that actually is offered to our medalists). Since medalists are chosen by each local high school, we cannot give out additional medals. I hope that this scholarship guarantee will help those students who were most disappointed in hearing that the e-mail was a mistake. We remain committed to you and the many families we work with each and every day.

Again, my sincerest apologies and I wish you a productive senior year.

James Nondorf
Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

IS FOR REAL OR WHAT???????? HOLLER!

lol nice /**********/

Uh...This sounds phony. You might want to call Renneselaer and verify this.

LOL ME TOO /HIGH FIVE

i actually searched the name of the place to find out wheather it was good or not, since i was considering it before i saw it labeled by US News as "most indebt students".

funny thing is, i read the first apology before i read the actual mistake email saying im a winner.

Little Proof: THE REAL EMAIL (the mistake one)

Dear XXXXXXX,

Congratulations on being named a Rensselaer Medal winner. Your academic accomplishments have earned you this prestigious honor and you should be proud of your achievements.

As a member of our community, you will contribute in dozens of ways to Rensselaer and the surrounding community through student government, athletics, community service, and the arts.

At Rensselaer, you will benefit from our unique approach to undergraduate engineering education. Beyond the classroom, participation in undergraduate research, the O.T.
FIRST APOLOGY:
Dear XXXXXX,

Earlier today you were sent two email messages. One message was sent to you in error (it was meant for our Rensselaer Medalists). Please accept my sincere apology for any confusion to you and your family that may have occurred as a result of this erroneously sent message.

Sincerely,

Sharon Beaudoin Director of Operations Rensselaer Admissions

So, had you really received a prior e-mail from them notifying you that you were a medal winner? If not, then it wouldn't apply to you (assuming it's real). And if you did (and it is real), do you really want to apply there ED?

also, their Early decision is 2 parts

1 is November first, and the other is January first, which isn't really early.

Tis legit, I got one too. Laughed my head off when I read the last email. 60k$ for my angst???

I hadn't considered Rens prior, but figured that for 60k$ I could at least look it up. I think I'll pass on it. Now if only they'd give me the 60k$ (oh the angst their message caused me ;) ) in cash or for use elsewhere.

Susan: you had to get an email that invited you (falsly) to a medal winner event at Rens. They accidentally sent out an email to a group of people inviting them to the event, even though they had not won a medal.

"Now if only they'd give me the 60k$ (oh the angst their message caused me ) in cash or for use elsewhere. "

AGREED

i wonder how they pick the name "Just put leadership on it... its broad enough"

Yeager, Sheed, we're all in the same boat here. I received the same message, sent out messages to family, got congrats back from them. Then saw another message in my inbox: it was a mistake!

Fortunately they seem to have fixed it. Was anyone who received the message and immediately knowing it was a mistake, i.e. grades not that great or anything? I think I'm possibly up to par for receiving the Medal, so it wasn't a huge surprise, especially since it doesn't involve much input from the student, as the schools choose the winner. Congrats to all the others for getting the replacement scholarship!

I think im up to par for the medal...but i'm just happy they offered the money..lol i don't really think ill do ED their but it's nice to have a backupish thingy like that wooooooohooooooo. And i realllly doubt it's a fake.

Well considering that my school doesn't give out the metal . . . and I'd never heard of it before. . .

I got the message too, but I didn't notice the scholarship part until now.

It's kind of weird, since my best friend won the medal, and then I get the email.

lol, a friend of mine also won the medal :D

haha I won a medal but my school nominated me....I've never seen it passed out this way...

anyone here apply early decision for the medal?
