OMG yet ANOTHER question about EFC...

So, we filled out the FAFSA for son #2. EFC came out to somewhere around $27K.

We did not fill one out for son #1, who has a partial merit scholarship.

Our kids have different amounts of money saved in their names. Son #1 now has less than son #2 (it's been spent on college).

So, my question is, should we fill one out for son #1? Or would his EFC be around $27K too? Or is that for both of them ($14K each)?

What's the scoop???

THANKS!

Did you make sure to answer 2 to the number in college question? If so the $27k is the EFC for son number 2. The EFC is reduced by the number of kids in college. But you do have to fill it out for each student - son no 1 cannot get aid based on son no 2's FAFSA. So go ahead and fill one out for son no 1. If he has less in savings his EFC should be lower. Doesn't cost anything to fill it out so why not.

Yes, we filled out 2 in college. I think we will go ahead and fill it out for son #1. I guess since we already have all the number more-or-less figured out, we might as well.

So it is possible for different kids to have different EFCs. That's sort of what I was trying to determine.

Thank you!

Yep - my D will have a much lower EFC than my son because he took last year off and worked.
