why does the Campbell's biology book have to be so crappy? I keep falling asleep while reading it and everything is so hard to understand. Anyone know of anything that makes studying from this utterly useless piece of crap easier?

Like you, I am currently reading the Campbell book. I think the best way to study it is to take it a section at a time. Read one section. Take like a minute break. Go on to the next section. Repeat until you finish the chapter. I find this method a way to stay highly focused.

I thought the Campbell book was superb. It wasn't difficult for me to understand -- only parts of it -- and it was generally interesting, well-written, and well-organized. Try a prep book, like Cliffs AP, to supplement your reading.

CliffsAp definitely works for AP BIO! ;)

I started with chapters 29-38 since that's what my summer assignment is on. The plant evolution stuff is so boring and hard to understand. I still don't understand the difference between a spore and a gamete, what exactly alternation of generations is, and well...basically everything else. AP Chemistry, AP Physics C, basically any other AP, I can excel in but this is pure torture.

The plant parts were the most boring, I'll admit. But I found the chemistry, evolution, and genetics parts to be interesting (though I hate genetics problems).

The kingdoms section was most boring. Ick.

I know how you feel...I regularly fall asleep reading the book. It's a great book though, explains everything pretty thoroughly. There's nothing you can do to make it more interesting. It took me a few weeks to get through chapters 29 and 30 :-(

As mentioned above, get a prep book like Cliffs to make things easier to understand. Also the student study guide is very useful. I have it and find the diagrams and summaries extremely useful.

Any tips on OUTLINING the darn thing. We have to do all the chapters on Ecology by Aug 25 BTW school starts Sept. 6th for me. Lovely.

^ school also starts on sept.6 for me.

I happen to love the Campbell book. But maybe that's because I used it for general bio and not AP bio.

campbell book should come with a CD? you can access it online and they have an e-text of the book, thorough questions on each chapter, and outlines of the book. i went through each chapter's questions and that made the book so much easier to read because i'd actually go through the book carefully to look for the answers.

problem is that I got it from my school so no CD :-(

i got it from my school too, and there was a CD. well i guess you can just outline it following headlines of the book. although, you really can't take a few weeks to get through a chapter once school gets kicking. learning all the stuff in the book in time for the AP is a bit brutal.

haha yeah, I'm just going over stuff for the summer assignment so I can take my time. I'm going to ask my teacher if he has the CD's.

Get the student guide - EXTREMELY helpful
