Omglolchances :d

Hey! I'm just wondering what you guys think my chances are for getting into the colleges on my list. I'd really like some feedback, positive/negative, I honestly don't care as long as you're truthful.

Gender: female
Race: Vietnamese
I'm first generation, and I come from a low income family.

UGPA: 3.76
WGPA: 4.58
Class Rank: 9/368, top 2%
I slacked off in my junior year (arghsostupid T_T), so my GPA/rank slipped, but I'm hoping to do better this semester to make up for it.

SAT1: 2120 (Reading: 720, Math: 650, Writing: 750)
I know, my math score SUCKS T_T. I don't deserve to be Asian.

I've yet to take any SAT2's or the ACT, but I've signed up for them.

Junior year classes:
AP Calculus
AP English Lang&Comp
AP Art
AP Biology
AP US History
Spanish III pre-IB
Theory of Knowledge

Senior year classes:
IB Math Methods
IB Biology
IB History of the Americas
IB Spanish
IB Art
AP/IB English Lit.
Theory of Knowledge

I've taken eight AP classes so far, but I've only passed five (all 3's except for a 4 in English Lang&Comp).

EC:
Secretary for National Honor Society
Historian for Junior Class
Co-founder of Culture Club
Spanish National Honor Society
IB Board
Technology Student Association
Academic Games
Art Club
Drama Club
Science Club
Anime Club

Alrighty, here are the colleges that I'm interested in:

Reach:
Georgetown
Cornell
Emory
Rice
Northwestern
Brown

Match(?):
NYU
UF
Rochester
Boston College

So what do you guys think? Do you think I have a chance at any of my Reach schools? Do my crappy AP/SAT math scores ruin everything? My school counselor is really no help at all...she just tip toes around the subject and never gives me a straight answer.

I think Georgetown isn't necessarily a reach. Maybe slight reach, but you can definitely try for that. NorthWestern, Emory, and Rice are all maybes too (Reach, but not in the sense of no possibility) Bring your SATs up if you can to solidify a chance at GTown. The others look to be the luck of the draw.

Cool :D .

Hmm, I've already taken the SAT1 twice hoping to improve my score...but the second time I got a 590 in math XD (and my reading and writing scores just switched). I don't think it's very likely that I'll be able to bring it up...math has always been my downfall.

Come on, guys. I'd really appreciate it if you guys could look over my stats and tell me what you think.

Does the lack of replies have anything to do with that fact that I'm not planning on applying to any superawesome schools (aka HYP)? Does that make me less interesting? :(

Good chance everywhere, since you're pretty much an URM with decent stats.

oooomg BRITTNEY?!

i'd say you've got a good chance everywhere =) nice stats.

Thanks, BillBank :D

I've been told (by the person who posted before me, actually (hi, victor :D)) that my stats kinda suck when compared to other Asian kids' stats. I guess Asians tend to have perfect 4.0 GPAs, and super amazing SAT scores, etc....

^Well, being Vietnamese isn't like being Chinese or Korean.

Spiffy. I thought that colleges just lumped all the Asians together into one massive squinty-eyed category.

And I just read over your stats, BillBank. You're one of those Asians that make me look like crap :P . Why didn't you take the SAT?

And does anyone think I should take one last stab at the SAT? To try and bring up my coughcough650cough in math?

You can if you want to, but I think your SAT score is decent as it is for the schools you're applying to. Plus, I'm guessing that you're taking Math II, just do well on that.

(You flatter me. I was focused on a particular school back then, and I thought my ACT was enough for me to get into that school ED, but oh how things change.)

Try to avoid putting anime club on your resume/application. Unless you actually did something major for it, it resembles fluff.

Really? I'll take your word for it. We didn't do much anyway (played DDR, watched an endless stream of Naruto episodes).

Aaaaanything else?

Bippity boppity BUMP.

Hmm, I just signed up for the ACT in October, but I'm starting to think that maybe I shouldn't have. It doesn't seem to be as important as the SAT.

I also have a question about SAT subject tests. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to take lit, but I'm not sure about the others. Is the test for bio difficult? And I pretty much fail at math, but should I take a stab at math2 anyway?
