I haven't read a good book in awhile and I was wondering what you guys are planning to read over the summer? I want to read some good books! Suggestions of books you've read and liked are also appreciated :)

What genres do you generally enjoy?

All except classics! What’s your favorite?

Read some by Khaled Hosseini ( sorry if I butchered the name) such as “The kite runner” and " a thousand splendid suns". They flow well and are great for casual reading. Additionally, they are rather relevant in today’s middle-east centered.

History, Science Fiction, Fantasy.

One of my favorite series is A Song of Ice and Fire, the fifth volume of which is coming out this summer. It’s also a series on HBO called *Game of Thrones/i.

I second A Song of Ice and Fire! Just started it yesterday and nearly done with the first one, haha.

I’m reading Anthony Giddens’ Sociology and Max Weber: Selections in Translation.

I would recommend Christina Meldrum’s Madapple and Room by Emma Donoghue.

Anyone up for the challenge of a book a day? Google Nina Sankovitch if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

I know this is a classic, but recently I read the Jungle by Upton Sinclair and it was great. For a more recent book, I suggest Leviathon. Good luck (:

Read Black Boy by Richard Wright and The City of Thieves by David Benioff. They’re 2 awesome books but if I had to pick one I would pick the latter. Hope you enjoy!

It’s Kind of a Funny Story, by Ned Vizzini. I think everyone on CC can relate to this book LOLL. Plus, there’s a movie that came out recently so you can look forward to that after reading :)

The Elegance of the Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbery
Write Naked, by Peter Gould
Franny and Zooey, by J.D. Salinger
The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd
Scrambled Eggs at Midnight, by Brad Barkley and Heather Hepler
Life of Pi, by Yann Martel
A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess
The Book Thief, by Markus Zuzak
Nineteen Minutes/The Tenth Circle/Keeping Faith, by Jodi Picoult
…and anything by Hemingway

I also second “A Thousand Splendid Suns”. It looks long but it only took me two days because it’s SO good.

If you’re a girl, you might like The Princess Diaries. I liked them. My guy friends only care for the movie though.
The Kite Runner by khaled Hossieni is good too, as posters above me have mentioned.
I’m reading the Arabian Nights right now. They are a collection of stories. really good if you like ‘frame story’ format.

I recommend the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

It’s a dystopian novel.

Read the Last Dragon Chronicles by Chris D’ Lacey. The first book is really little kidy the second is okay. But the 3rd and so on is SO AWESOME!!!

Anyway I know you won’t so go read Book Thief or something.

Feed by M.T. Anderson, is very good. It’s about teenagers in the future who have computer chips in their brain. Very moving

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.

I know this much is true - Wally lamb (GREAT book) and his other two books. I think they’re “she’s come undone” and “the hour I first believed”. Both are also excellent books. Also everything by Jodi picoult. She is an amazing author. The davinci code and angels and demons by Dan brown are good too.

if you’re going into ap ush, the book 1776 might interest you. It’s actually a really good book.

If you’re into thrillers/horror fiction you can’t do much better than Stephen King. If you want a long book, (1,000+ pages) I’d recommend “Under the Dome” by Stephen King. It was one of the most gripping books I’ve ever read.

Counter: H.P. Lovecraft
