On an apparent absence of "Why ____" Essays and Midterm Reports

Hey, well I am in the thick of frantically trying to get my apps out by the 15th, and also study for my finals, also on the 15th (i go to a trimester system school). I am baffled as to why several schools (WashU, Wesleyan) seem not to have a Why _____ essay, or any additional creative essay as a part of their supplement to the common app. Am I overlooking something? Obviously I can't state why i want to go to a certain school in the one-size-fits-all common app essay. What's the deal? Also, there doesnt seem to be a standard common app Midterm Report form as part of the common app, am i correct in my assumption that each school has its own?

thanks alot, any and all hel/answers would be great.

I had a generic "why transfer essay," but included the "why x school" at the bottom of it. So, if the school doesn't ask "why x," then I just include it in the main transfer essay.

For midterm reports, not all colleges require them and Common App doesn't use it. If you wish to submit midterm grades, just make your own.

many of the schools that use the common app have on their website a "transfer midterm report" I assume they want that sent in? Also, the Common app reason for transfer essay is one-size-fits-all obviously, what can one do, if, like wes and washu, there is apparently no additional why ___ essay?

Sorry if I didn't make it clear, I meant that you can add your own "why x" at the end of the regular common app essay, but add a transition between the two.

And yes, if they have their own midterm report, then it is obviously required, but it they don't ask for it and you want to supplement your application, then make your own and send it in.

Actually your generic essay will be your Why Transfer essay. On the commonapp supplementary info section you can include your special super dooper essay if you wish. It's what I did and it worked.

even if there is no supplement to speak of? just attach one unsolicited?

I, too, am applying as a transfer to Wes. On the Common App website, in the essay section, there is relatively extensive "Why Wesleyan" question ("Please reflect on your reasons for considering a transfer. Why are you transferring? Why was your most recent college not a good fit? What do you know now that you didn't know during your first college search process?"). I would make sure you selected that you are a transfer while registering for the CA website rather than an incoming freshman.

Most schools have a "Why X" in addition to the Common App essay.

Wesleyan only uses the common transfer application essay, but on their admissions website, under the transfer section, it says that the essay is really important and that you can add a paragraph or a page to more fully explain your current situation (or in my case, why I want to go to Wesleyan).
