On behalf of the President....

and the secretary of the Army, I am pleased to announce that the United States Miltary Academy has accepted you for admission.....

What a nice day-after-Thanksgiving gift! I had visions of highjacking this envelope if/when it arrived and stashing it under the Christmas tree; however, son opened the door for the FedEx guy and the whooping began!!

Dad and I are so very proud!

Congratulations to your son on his appointment to USMA! It's quite an honor.

Send that acceptance card in ASAP if he's comfortable with it.

Why is that? I thought they had til May? Not that he'll wait that long, but he has a few other options that I want him to sort out first so he is 100% comfortable with his choice.

It's a great idea to let this sink in for a bit and have all options on the table. That should help prevent some second-guessing during the dark winter months.

Congratulations! That package was much better than any shopping he could have done that day. :)

i accepted my offer of admission, what happens now?

"i accepted my offer of admission, what happens now?"
Congratulations! You will have additional paperwork to complete: police background checks, prescription eyeglass information if necessary, vaccination documentation, uniform measurements etc. Most importantly, keep fit and healthy, and keep that DodMERB qualified status! It goes without saying that you should keep your grades up and stay out of trouble :)

"he has a few other options that I want him to sort out first so he is 100% comfortable with his choice."

This is so important. Going for the right reasons is key to success at WP, and this is no less true for recruited athletes where any number of things including injury can change the experience.
Good luck to your son mom3boys!

rah rah,

Congratulations to you! And do everything Ann suggests. Have a little fun this year, too.

Yes, have some fun!

Got Appointment yesterday! Finally the waiting is over.

When do we have to send our Appointment Acceptance Card in by?

yeah, i was wondering about that acceptance card, too. my appointment arrived in the mail last friday and i called the admissions office on monday. my regional director wasn't there, but his machine directed me to another officer. that officer also wasn't there. so i called the main admissions office and no one picked up there either. are they gone for the holidays already?
but is sending that card back binding in any way?

Cards need to be mailed back by 1 May. No this decision is not binding (if you do not want to attend, WP would rather know that before R-day when the slot can still be offered to another candidate), but please be honest. Do not say "yes" unless you really do intend to report on R day and give it your best. If you need to weigh other options, wait and make an informed decision before you return your card.

Hersheybear- I called 5 different extensions and did not have one admissions officer pick-up, and I've been periodically calling over the course of the last 2 weeks. I still have yet to get into contact with any of them. MAJ Freds said to drop him an email if it was important, so I'd suggest that.

Anyways, my acceptance letter came friday, dated 11 Dec 2007.

The admissions team is really busy at this time of the year as they try and get as much done as possible before they close for the holiday period. E-mail is usually the best way to contact your Regional Commander.
