On-Campus Banking

Try the campus credit union. See for example, http://www.usccreditunion.org/. My son has a checking account and a debit card from them. Works well.

My daughter just kept her local bank. She works at an on-campus job, just 10 hours a week, and it's direct deposited. She says she uses her atm card mostly at stores and then just gets extra money from her account when she uses it. She's been great about staying within her limits. It's only now as a college junior that we're going to look into a credit card in her name so she can start establishing her credit history. Anyone have suggestions for something students can get that has miles for air travel? She got quite a few offers when she was starting college but not much now. (sorry for the little hijack)

We've got B of A (in North Carolina), but it's not the big bank in the state. The poster who said that Wachovia was taking over wasn't far off. A couple of years ago, First Union bought out Wachovia and kept the Wachovia name, and I've heard that Wachovia has recently bought SouthTrust (a much smaller chain). And since Wachovia and First Union were both based in NC (Winston-Salem and Charlotte, respectively), Bank of America didn't really stand a chance here.
