On-campus housing application for freshmen

When I visited an information session, UT encuraged to do housing application immediately after ApplyTexas application.
Do you have any recomendation on on-campus housing choice ?
If my D is accepted in honors program, which one is better ?

UT Housing uses the date you applied for housing as your priority date - so when they send out contracts, assign rooms, etc, they do it in housing application date order. The earlier the better, as you have a better chance of getting your 1st or 2nd housing choice.

For on-campus housing, the halls are all very different so it is hard to recommend one over another without knowing what your D is wanting - small vs large, different bathrooms types, area of campus, etc. Would recommend visiting the housing site (utexas.edu/livehere) and watching videos. That being said, honors housing is VERY popular.

I can check the web site but would like to hear actual experience. UT has too many on-campus housings such as Andrews, Blanton, Carothers, Littlefield, Duren, Kinsolving, Whtis, Brackenridge, Creekside, Moore-Hill, Prather, Roberts, San Jacinto, Jester West and Jester East. It gives tough time to applicants who don’t know campus life.

Here is a thread with over 50 pages of dicussion about UT’s dorms
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/569910-university-texas-dorms.html?highlight=dorms

I agree with Lightens. The dorms have been discussed a bunch. Check out the links provided.

You don’t have to pick the dorm until next summer, so I would apply now for your daughter to have a better chance of getting what she wants. If she had a roommate picked out, her chances of getting the room she wants are increased even more.

Thanks, I will check the old thread on UT dorms.
