<p>Dd is planning to move off campus by junior year to an apt. – however is on campus housing guaranteed all 4 years, in case she decides not to? Is enough housing an issue here as it is, say at UCLA?</p>
<p>guaranteed? no, i don’t think so, unless your child is on a housing scholarship. but there is quite a bit of housing at UA.</p>
<p>Housing apparently isn’t even guaranteed to freshmen, although living on campus is supposedly required. 
I was just on the housing website, and there’s a notice that freshmen who were accepted after June 8 may not be able to find on-campus housing, and instructing them to fill out an exemption form.</p>
<p>I’m so glad I’ve learned the importance of submitting the housing deposit on the first available date! I’ve got October 1 marked on the calendar for submitting DD’s freshman housing deposit for next school year.</p>
<p>housing can’t be guaranteed, otherwise the school would have to have housing for 20k plus students. </p>
<p>However, returning students who indicate that they want to remain on campus during the recontracting time, typically do get on-campus housing. </p>
<p>No, housing isn’t a problem like it is for UCLA, however, I don’t think any large public can guarantee on-campus housing for all 4 years simply because of the number of students. </p>

<p>Good idea! Those who commit early have first choice. Those who delay cannot expect best choices to be available. </p>
<p>I do think that since honor housing is sooo popular and apartment-like, that Bama needs to have more. In the past, kids typically moved off-campus after one year. However, since honors is so nice, many don’t feel the need to. Bama may need to get more rooms at The Bluff or find another apt like it.</p>
<p>whoops! if i was a freshman counting on housing and there was none available, i would be pizzed off!!! you can’t “require” freshman to live on campus and then not have room for them. that’s baloney!</p>

<p>my opinion changes with that. if you haven’t committed by the official commit date (may 1, is it?) then you can’t really expect there to be housing. i guess that is one way to get the housing exemption!</p>

<p>Certainly. The school can’t be expected to have available housing no matter when students accept. Everyone has to be reasonable. </p>
<p>But, again, I wouldn’t be surprised if housing ends up being available…summer melt, kids deciding to move into greek housing, kids deciding to move off-campus, etc.</p>
<p>And, many schools “require” frosh to live on campus, but when housing runs out, they give exemptions.</p>
<p>There is a process for recontacting and it is quite simple provided you remember the deadlines.</p>
