On Campus Housing waitlist

Any one have any experience with the housing wait list from prior years.
My daughter is a Gateway transfer and is on the wait list for a room.
ND Housing indicated they normally have 10 to 20 spots open but wondering what others have experienced

Thanks for Sharing

Have you been in touch with the housing office recently, @NDNovaDad ? With the first year assignments released in early July, I would have thought that by now that Soph transfers coming in through the Gateway Program would have been told. Also, there are more than 20 Gateway transfers, so do some Gateways already have their room assignment while other Gateways do not?

@parent365 - We have talked to housing. About half the Gateway class got rooms on the initial assignment for transfers and the rest are on the wait list. Housing updates it every week so we are getting a status and there has been some movement. I posted to see if others had the experience last year and if so how quickly the list cleared and if the 10 to 20 rooms estimate seemed realistic. Thanks

And I should have also clarified that the 10 to 20 spots was the estimate for females only.

Well, I’m sorry to hear that your daughter is having to deal with this. While the housing office will likely have it rectified by mid-August, it’s unsettling not having the housing assignment nailed down at this point.

I wonder if this freshmen class was bigger than usual, that might explain this small waiting list for rooms.

My son was accepted to the Gateway Progrsm but he is concerned he might not have a dorm assignment as a sophomore transfer. I know gateway students have priority. Was you daughter ultimately offered a housing assignment in the dorms? Does anyone know if it is common for Gateway students to not receive on campus housing? Thanks, for sharing your experience.

@Petkea Residence Hall space availability is constantly changing from year-to-year based on many variables, including the new 3-year residence requirement for incoming students. I believe it therefore will be best to speak on the specific situation for Gateway transfers with the ND Office of Housing during your Gateway Day visit or at another opportunity. Personally, I am not aware that Gateway transfers did ultimately not receive Notre Dame on-campus housing ever, it is however correct that some non-HCC/non-SMC transfer students have had to live off-campus.

@Petkea As the previous post mentioned, it hasn’t been a problem in the past. However, the dynamic has changed with the 3 year residency requirement. The first year that ND will see the full impact to it’s housing system is the year your son would be transferring. I would definitely be asking questions.
