on campus interview...advise please

Hi, I was just wondering what sorts of questions my DDs could expect when they have an on-campus admissions interview. This will be their first "for real" interview and it would be geat if they could go in a little more prepared. Thanks!

historymom, my son has only had alumni interviews, not on campus ones. We have a copy of "How to Get Into the Top Colleges" by Richard Montauk and Krista Klein. It had a chapter on interviews, and specifically addressed what you could expect when interviewing on campus. There were also lots of possible interview questions. I can't find the book right now, unfortunately. In preparation for his interviews my son had me ask him all the questions. It was great practice. He went in feeling confident and well prepared, and enjoyed his interviews. As it turned out, his alumni interviewers didn't ask nearly as in depth questions, but he was thankful he invested the time. I'd recommend checking for that book or others at either your public library, the school's library, or school career center/guidance office. Every interview I've heard of has addressed the "Why our school?" question. Having specific answers to that is extremely important.

For many kids, the idea of an interview may be unnerving. I'd also add reassurance that the interviewers are used to working with teens and enjoy it. I've enjoyed reading many posts here from kids who were initially nervous going in only to come back and report it went great.

D's interview questions were based upon her high school experiences. It was pretty low keyed. D didn't think much of the interviewer though h and I liked her. D liked the interviewer at Lewis and Clark better but didn't like the school. I don't think your girls will have a problem with interviewers. Good luck to both of them. D is really enjoying herself there. It's a great school.

hey leslie thanks! My girls, like most kids, can be pretty awkward with people they don't know so it is good to hear that it's a relaxed interview. I am glad your D is continuing to have such a good time.
