My son is having an on-campus interview with a senior student who works in admissions. Has anyone had one or have an idea of what type of questions they ask? Thanks!

My son had one of those “senior interviews.” He thought it went well, and when I picked him up, he seemed quite pleased with himself. A few quiet minutes went by in the car as I tried to navigate New Haven, and then dawn broke over Marblehead. He said: “these interviewers are really good at putting you at ease and having you put your best foot forward.”

I have heard of exceptions, but rarely, and I think your son will be able to relax and put himself forward in a favorable light. He will probably be nervous going in, but will likely be much more relaxed when he comes out. I’m not sure that there are any standard questions.

I’m not sure whether it’s good news or bad, but I’ve been told by everyone involved that the interviews do not count for much. That’s only fair, because not everyone gets to have one. Your son should take it as an opportunity to find out something about Yale that the web site doesn’t answer.

Good luck to him (and you ).
