I have an on-campus interview with a Wellesley admissions officer next week and i just want some advice and insights. Like, are they intense and really formal? or are they relaxed? Is the interview strictly question answer based, or is it like a conversation? Thank you for people who comment. I really want to go into the interview room with some sense of what will happen!

I believe on campus interviews happen at the admissions office, Weaver House. Generally, interviewers like to make you feel comfortable, and I’ve heard it’s more like a conversation than a run-through of a list of questions.

I have seen some prospectives come into admissions for interviews dressed very very casually, but personally I don’t think that’s a good idea. You don’t need a suit or anything extremely formal, but I would dress about semi-formal. It is potentially an interview that could help change a lot of your life, and you want to look like you care.

I did my on campus interview last october and the lady was really nice. i wore khakis and a nice top and nice flats. it was like a conversation the woman who interviewed me was older and had a daughter who went to wellesley and i dont think she was an admin officer. we sat facing each other and she asked me a little about school and my favorite subjects, what i like to read and about my extra curriculars. it really felt like a conversation most of the time. then she asks if you have any questions. my lady did not write any notes while we talked. she wrote a total eval afterwards.

hope this helps you be more prepared

Not all the interviewers are admissions officers; some are Wellesley staff or residential directors.

Don’t stress out too much about the interview. It’s the interviewer’s job to put you at ease.

My advice is to be yourself, and ask questions that don’t have answers found in the promotional materials. I came into the interview with a few bullet points (in my head) about “why Wellesley?”

I had an alumni interview as a transfer student. I wore nice pants and a blouse to mine. My interviewer was “intense” (she worked at a major law firm), but overall tried to make me feel comfortable. It was basically a conversation assessing “fit.” She asked me questions such as why I wanted to transfer and why I thought Wellesley would be a good fit. I asked her questions such as why she chose Wellesley and how she felt going to an all women’s college. We talked about my extracurriculars and my favorite classes. We also discussed the wonders of the location we were in, and talked a little bit about her son.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your advices and insights. It makes me feel a lot better knowing what I’ll have to face I’ll put all of your advices into consideration!

My interview was very easygoing, like a conversation. I found myself just talking about the things I really liked.
Personally, having nice clothes on makes it easier for me to get into the right mood, so I wore nice pants, flats, and a nice top.

Thank you guys for all your advices. I just want to say that my interview went well and your comments here helped alot! :)
