What's the best way to land an on-campus job this late in the semester?

Ask your friends if they know of any openings, go to campus employment, speak to the offices/places you would want to work and ask if they need anyone. Sometimes there may be a few hours here or there that need to be work and no one was able to fill.

Go to the financial aid office if you're eligible for work-study (they're the best jobs you'll ever get on-campus).

usually, dining halls are ALWAYS hiring due to high turnover. If you want something better like an office-job, ask around. If a friend is liked by his employer, they would be likely to give a friend of his friend a shot. A popular job at my school is working at the children's center. I think most colleges have some kind of childcare facility mostly for young children of the staff. I've been working there since the start of the school year. Other jobs include driving the shuttle or calling alumni for money.

Also, some schools pay tour-guides, but that can be very selective.

Other possibilities include working within your own department or for departments like the computer/network dept (Information Technology or similar usually) or the campus security dept.
Some jobs on campus will even allow you to do homework, etc. while working.
Also, certain facilities such as the pool may need a specialized staff (i.e., lifeguards)--just check around and be sure to visit your office of student employment (or similar)
