I know I ask many questions and ask for suggestions from this forum a lot, and I make my decisions really mostly based on you guys' replies.
So, here's one more thing:
Are there any on campus jobs available at Tulane? Is it easy to get?
Because I know that for internationals to get a SSN, they need to get an on campus job, since it's illegal to be employed with a student visa.
Any ideas? Anyone?

it’s very easy to get an on-campus job, particularly if you are given work-study through the financial aid office. even if you do not have work-study, you can still get a job at some places like the reily center (the gym/fitness center) because they need to hire a lot of students part-time to keep the place running. i know that sometimes if you do not have work-study it is hard to get jobs in actual departments or offices (for example working as a receptionist for the spanish department) due to budget constraints (tulane saves money with work-study kids because the federal government pays a portion of your income), but i’m not sure if its impossible. you should definitely be able to find something!

Is work-study offered through applying to Financial aid? Since federal grant is involved, I don’t think internationals are qualified. Anybody know when the FA decision’s coming out?

They are rolling out now. Not sure how long it takes for everyone to receive theirs.

just checked online, still nothing… only the merit aid

My D is a freshman and was awarded work study. She has not yet found a job this year on campus, even though she has applied for numerous positions. I have emailed the financial aid office about this and all I get is the runaround. I have talked to a couple of other parents in the same situation.

I did get the financial aid package. But due to the international status, they could only give aid up to a certain amount, and obviously no work study.
Maybe getting a job with a professor or something could be an option. idk

finding a job here is pretty easy. i hate to say this, but if your S/D hasn’t been able to find a job, they are probably lazy and/or haven’t tried very hard.

i applied to riley (the rec center) last semester and got a job, but decided that i didn’t have time for one. i know riley hires many kids, as well as HRL, and various departments. there is some kind of online database that also has job listings, you could probably call the admissions office and ask about it.

for example, one of my friends works for the German Dept, another works at the Butler front desk, another tutors kids 2X/week, and another friend babysits. there are many job options and opportunities here!
