on-campus jobs?

What are the best on-campus jobs? I've heard library is easy and allows for study time but I also know that they pay the least, so I was wondering if anybody knew anything about other jobs? (catering, food service, research, etc.)

what school/year are you in?

oh i’ll be an incoming freshman LSA

A lot of freshmen work in dining halls. If you have work-study, you could get paid through UROP (research).

I worked in one of the food places in the union basement last year. It wasn’t a bad job. (I basically worked there because I lived in west quad and it was awesome to not have to go outside for work in the winter.) A lot of my friends worked in dining halls, one did UROP, one worked in the architecture library (she really, really liked her job b/c she’s an aspiring architect) and another worked as a referee for intramural sports.

How numerous are the dining hall jobs? Will any freshmen who wants a dining hall job get one?

i think that’s the case, but i’m not positive

Don’t take a dining hall job.

Work in either IT or as a paid assistant researcher. Those pay more and look slightly better on a resume. Also those two also have a lot of idle time where you’re just sitting and you can do your hw meanwhile.

Are those jobs competitive?

Resident advisor on resident staff! You get to meet interesting co-workers and residents.
It covers room and board for the entire year. That sums up to be around $13,000 with the single room, unlimited meal plan with 300 blue bucks and 300 dining dollars.

how do you get a tech/IT job? Is it hard? They seem to have a lot of requirements attached to them but are they willing to teach their emloyees?

Man if you can get one of those jobs at the library desk or the SLC satellite location in the USB you’re set. They’re on Facebook and Pinterest the whole time…

The dining halls are the largest student employer on campus and you can pretty much always find a job. Not the most glamorous, but the pay is OK, you’ll meet people, and you can be promoted to a manager.

Jobs at a library are EXTREMELY hard to get, my friend told me he applied and they had a wait list of like 500 application or something. I would try to get a desk job, but trying to get a job where u can study also is very very hard to get. and BTW dining hall jobs suck

Btw, IT/assistant research will only allow you to work M-F from 8AM-5PM.
But with a dining hall job, you have much more flexibility in your hours like working nights and weekends.

Jobs are hard to get on campus? How so? Just apply to every job opening via the work study site. Seriously, if you send out like 30 emails which is doable in like an hour, then you’re bound to get a few interviews and eventually a job. It’s really only difficult if you’re picky.
