On campus/Off campus ?

Hi all,
I read somewhere that on campus living is compulsory for freshman students and housing is guaranteed, however i am not sure about it.
Can anyone please tell if that's true.
I am a student from India.

because housing is guaranteed for freshmen, this can result in freshmen being put into “forced triples” (three people in rooms designed for two). the extent to which this happens depends on how many freshmen they have. a few years ago they had many more people accept offers of admission than they expected and there was a lot of tripling, but that was an extreme situation. i think the new dorms opening next fall (replacing old dorms) will result in a net increase of rooms on campus, so i don’t know how much tripling to expect next year – it’ll depend on the size of the freshman class. (tripling is not unique to Binghamton – it happens to freshmen at many colleges.)

since you are international, you may want to request “break housing.” the dorms close during school breaks, except for dorms designated as “break housing.” so if you will need to stay at school over school breaks, you should request this.
