On Campus Physical Therapy

S is a freshman and a runner with a recurring Achilles problem. He received some specialized PT during the summer that helped but the problem has flared back up. Is there PT available thru health services? rec center? other? He doesn’t really need a doctor - he knows the problem. Just needs some tweaking.

My DD had a severe hip strain from running last year. I asked Dr. Sharpe, the Honors College dean, for PT suggestions since he is a runner and the Honors College has a strong running group. He suggested several and I made some phone calls to get everything set up. I will text her later and get the name of the person she saw. It was not on campus, but located a good bit down McFarland. Does your son have a car or access to one? This guy did do some work on campus with some of the athletic teams, but his hours there were walk-in and didn’t fit with her class schedule.

My DS injured his knee a couple of weeks before fall semester started and the orthopedic doc prescribed PT for him. The doctor is the one who told us - there are physical therapists at the rec center! DS was able to go a couple of mornings a week before class until this week, when he was deemed to no longer need it. Good luck!

Sorry I’m late to the party, but I want to let you know that [Champion Sports Medicine](http://urec.ua.edu/ChampionSportsMedicine.cfm) at the UA Recreation Center is FANTASTIC!

D1 had a 2nd knee surgery on 8/2 and was only able to get 2 weeks of PT in locally before she moved back to UA. She started at Champion Sports on the Monday after move in and was just discharged last week. They kicked her butt  Really good staff, convenient for her.

So glad to hear good reports about CSM. DS informed us over fall break that he injured his knee during an intramural flag football game the previous week. Since he works at the rec, he consulted their athletic trainer. Looks like he may be headed for CSM for evaluation, so I’m glad to hear such a good report.

I’d love to know if anyone has experience with CSM other than PT.
