On-campus recruitment vs applying onine

I have applied to several interships through online applications, but I heard that these rarely get looked at. is this true? and also, what exactly is meant by on-campus recruiting. Is is just bringing my resume to my school's career development office and giving it to them, or am i supposed to attend these events that the banks hold at my school.

It is true that many times merely applying online will yield nothing.

As for on-campus recruiting, it refers to the resume drop via your school's career center as well as the events a company will hold at your school -- basically the aggregate. Also some firms ask that you apply online AND submit via the school's electronic resume drop.

So yes, in addition to electronic resume drop, it is advisable to attend some of the events in order to demonstrate that you have a genuine interest in the company (many times interviewers will ask if you attended any).

Also, you can get some face time with a professional and potentially make a good connection and that individual could potentially be an advocate of you.
