My son was deferred at Elon. Is an on-campus interview in the next month helpful for getting him in? We're just a few hours away in Richmond, so the travel is not an issue. Thanks in advance.

I’d recommend posting this on the Elon thread since you can get better/precise answers there.

Elon’s 08-09 Common Data Set says that interviews are “not considered,” but “level of applicant’s interest” is.

Has he visited campus yet? A lot of schools that size would wonder why a student who is relatively close by has not visited campus. I would think that it would help, particularly because the school is about 60% female and they undoubtedly want more males. Even if a visit does not help him get in, it is worthwhile for your son to help determine if HE wants to go there.

^ I agree with John2698, Elon does not conduct interviews but it can’t hurt to visit and show your interest. If you do visit, ask his Admissions Counselor in advance of your trip if you could stop by and introduce yourself while on campus. It just helps to put a face to the application. Although Elon deferred a lot of students, keep in mind that there are students accepted EA (my D and several other students from her high school alone) have decided to attend other colleges so those spots become available. Good luck!

just visit the campus and meet the teachers and staff, see if he likes the place…
