Hi there - D was just put on hold at CCM after LA auditions. Does anyone have experience with this - historically have kids who’ve been put on hold gotten in? When do they usually find out? We haven’t visited the school yet and if she was accepted we’d want to visit - so I’m trying to guess the timing.

Can’t help you because we are in EXACTLY the same boat. (On hold after L.A. Unifieds) We’re awfully excited over here that she even have made it that far!

How did you find out you were on hold ~ website or email?

My daughter did not apply to CCM during her auditions last year, and went into a college she was accepted at right off. However, we watched many friends and acquaintances deal with the ‘wait list’ piece. Due to the large number of universities most students applied to, and which I think may likely have even increased this year, once students started voicing acceptances, a huge domino effect began! I know of some students who were accepted off waitlists all the way into June at very prestigious schools. After all, each student can only go to one! My advice would be to visit ASAP any schools that she is accepted at or waitlisted to, and seriously interested in. You might not have enough time between being accepted and needing to choose later on. I would also consider the idea of placing $ down on a school she is accepted to by May 1, considering that if she is waitlisted and then accepted farther down the road you might end up forfeiting the deposit in order for her to attend a school higher on her dream list. This happened to a number of students we were aware of. Best of wishes!

Just to clarify, I am under the imprepession that “On Hold” is not the same as “wait list.” It sounds from Aubrey Berg’s email that the “On Hold” group is the pool from which they plan to draw their Freshman class (except for a very few that have already been chosen) and that we will hear sometime before April 1 (not specifically stated, but I am inferring) whether they are admitted, rejected or wait listed. Those who eventually do end up on the wait list will THEN possibly be in for a long and grueling wait to see who comes off.

Anyone else have a different impression?

Oh, and @gabbadabadoo: It was an email from Aubrey Berg. Sounds like a lot of them went out all at the same time yesterday mid morning.

Yea I agree with tracyvp! I got the impression from the email that on hold was different than wait list.

Oh hold is different than wait list and is as tracy described. Congrats to those on hold and for getting this far at this point.

I called the school yesterday and she told me the status should change in march - to either rejected, accepted, or wait listed.

Has anyone heard anything (on hold, accepted, rejected, etc.) from the Unified Auditions in Chicago?!?!?!

At least some on hold emails have gone out from NYC and Chicago Unifieds, too. They may still be sending them, however - not sure.

This program has a fairly small freshman class (20-22) and I’ve noticed that makes a difference in whether they use rolling admissions. Of the schools we’ve looked at, for instance, PP and OCU aim for an MT freshman class of 40-45 and so they do not need to be as concerned about getting the right mix or type in one class so they have more leeway to admit really talented kids – even if it means too many tenors one year or too few dancers the next.

The smaller schools as CCM or Oklahoma (which accepts 8 males and 8 females) are waiting until they’ve seen all or most of the applicants as it really is about type and mix and having enough of each voice range junior and senior years to fill out the parts.
So even applicants who went to campus auditions at OU in October or Northern Colorado in November, for instance, won’t hear until all the auditions are complete early next month. There are others I’m sure, but these are the threads I’ve been watching.

We have not visited the CCM campus and my son went to LA by himself so I no direct information (though my wife will tell you that has never stopped me from having an opinion) but my guess is that “wait listed” means there is another student of “YOUR TYPE” who has been offered a spot and you won’t get in unless that student says no. “On Hold” likely means you are a candidate to fill the spot where we need “YOUR TYPE.” but we have to finish looking at the talent before we are sure.

It is a tough way to do admissions - very stressful on kids and hard on parent who want to plan campus visits - but probably better than giving no information at all as other programs with small enrollments feel they must do. And as CCM will remind you often, they’ve been doing it longer than anyone.

I also realize reading this thread that my son (LA Unifieds) has not gotten an email from CCM and so the rejection will probably come in the mail. Good luck to all.

I am still confused about the people who haven’t gotten on hold emails and haven’t been rejected. This means that some people have gotten in already but they haven’t been notified yet right? Has CCM been sending out rejections? Also haven’t all of the auditions ended for CCM?

Right now being on hold is a very good thing. It means they like you a lot, but it is possible to be on hold and ultimately rejected. It is also possible to be accepted without ever being placed on hold. Don’t know if any rejections have gone out yet, but there are some acceptances. Hope this helps .Good luck!

There is a reason to send holds and acceptances via email - so applicants can plan campus trips if needed, explore housing, and engage with financial aid.
This school gets 800 MT applications, and there is no reason to send rejections via email - my guess is that those will come via regular post.

We got the on hold email too, after Unifieds. And, know of 6 others. I think Aubrey Berg has to view the videos before a decision is made. He was not able to attend Unifieds. We do have a friend who got an acceptance but auditioned on campus, and Mr. Berg was there.

I was told by the CCM auditors that indeed the tapes would go back to CCM and be viewed by their acceptance committee which I imagine would include Aubrey Berg and Diane Lala among others possibly. I was told Aubrey Berg was in the thick of things with directing “Into The Woods” which is why he did not attend the Unifieds.

I auditioned at Chicago unifieds and have received nothing- are there other people in the same boat as me and I should assume that a letter will come this week…or should we call at the end of this week?

I auditioned February 11th on CCM’s campus and would also like to know when I should expect to hear something.

The undergraduate admissions office said that those who auditioned in Chicago should hear by Friday.

Hope that helps,
EJ
