Can anyone recommend one? My daughter got a small scholarship that pays part of her lessons at a music school. It requires her to take a music theory course at school. Scheduling for the course is not convenient for us. The school would agree to any music theory course taken elsewhere. She has taken private lessons for 9 years on her instrument. She knows a little bit of music theory as a result.

I had exchanged emails with a woman named Margaret Thomsen (DMA) based on a referral, but my son didn’t feel he could commit the 6-10 hrs a week required. (To his own peril, because he’s now at UMich and was WAY behind on theory. Now he wishes he had have taken it!)
I will try to paste in the google link that has archived her three-page list of requirements (we had bought the books and they’re very pricey but quite good, according to son, who still uses the material as support).
PS - This is AP Music Theory online. If you are referring to a college course, please disregard. Unclear from your post whether your daughter is a HS student or college student.

Her email address, in case that didn’t work, is mthomsen at arsmusicaonline.com

Thank you. Yes, we are looking for AP music theory. 6-10 hrs per week is a lot. I don’t think my daughter can pull that off.

I know what you mean. At the same time, when you think about it, they spend more time than that practicing their instrument, and would spend about 6 hrs. class time each week if it were offered at school. To get a really good grounding in music theory is an academic-level endeavor. Eg. my son’s first year theory class at college required about the same amount of time, between classes, homework, reading etc. I think it might take less time if your daughter has a decent grounding to start with.
Good luck with your search!

Igloo, do a title search on “theory”, and display as threads. There are a number of past threads, and there might be some more info.

Son did online berklee senior jr yr HS. Band director insisted on theory class to be drum major. HS Class did not fit in schedule. It wasn’t cheap took a lot of time but he learned and enjoyed.
