on the right path?

i'm currently a sophomore at st george's school in newport (private boarding school in the independant school league) and am really interested in applying to william and mary when im a senior. Could you guys tell me if im on the right track for possible acceptance?

White female, from CT

spent freshman year at competitive public high school, As and Bs in regular classes, Varsity soccer and Varsity tennis
Transferred to St George's for sophomore year:

Activities:
Varsity Soccer

JV Sailing (again, hopefully varsity next year as we are graduating a ton of seniors)
Community service club and random community service events
Green cup challenge/sustainability club - possible head next year
Tour guide for St. George's admissions department
Joining newspaper next year, possible high position

Work over the summer at coffee shop in my town

Classes sophomore year and grades (1st semester)
English 2: B-
World History: B (even though its not the AP class, taking AP test in may, hopefully score a 3 or higher)
Geometry: B-
Biology: B-
French 2: B

Probable Junior Year classes:
English 3
AP US History
Algebra 2 Honors
Chemistry
French 3 Honors
*I applied for a program my school offers called Geronimo where you live in a 70' boat for 6 weeks with 6 other students and 3 first mates, take all your courses and study marine biology - sailing from newport to the bahamas. Hopefully will be accepted and participate next fall
*Also applied for prefect position in freshman dorm, which is a leadership position - very hard to get as there are only 8 spots for about 60 applicants, but again hopefully I will get it

probable Senior Year classes:
Either AP English or two 1 semester english electives
AP Government
Pre Calc
Either AP Bio or AP French
1 semester of art course (either architecture or basic art), 1 semester religion - these are requirements I have to meet for graduation

If you guys could give me any feedback that would be great!

work hard and try to get the best grades that you can... being an out of state female will work against you.

yes, less than 20% of OOS females got offers this year. you'll really need to boost those grades big time to receive consideration ... unless you're of chinese AA descent and play the cello like Yo Yo and can dunk like Yao and you're a muslim buddhist.

As you are a white female from CT, I cannot say that you are currently 'on the right path.' You really need to bump up your grades, and by quite a bit.

I think this article has some interesting insights: https://alumni.wm.edu/magazine/spgsum_2007/feature_5.shtml

That might tell you that, for example, in your Senior year you're contemplating 1 AP or 2 electives - any college would likely prefer that you take the AP whenever offered, as the question they usually ask is "Did this applicant take the most challenging courseload available at their school?"

Also, the Common Data Set can help give you an idea of what the school is looking for, found here: http://www.wm.edu/ir/CDS/cds0708.xls - tab c.

It may not be immediately clear, but because women apply to the school at nearly twice the rate men do, and because the requirement that 66% of the incoming class be in-state, the admissions rate for OOS females is pretty dismal. Honestly, your GPA, by itself, probably isn't within range. You'll need a very high class rank, a stellar SAT, or some 'hook' (recruited athlete, etc) to overcome that.

Best of luck.
