On the right track...?

I am only going to be a sophmore this year, but I was hoping to receive some input and advice as to what I should aim for in the next few years...

Hispanic

Aunt attended Dartmouth, cousin is a professor there, but other than that, no legacy standing.

International Baccalaureate Student in the top 11th school in the nation, according to Newsweek [however, I am not quite sure how the ranking / rating works so this might not mean much...]

Intended major -> Molecular Biology
Intended career -> possibly in the military, cardiothoracic or neurosurgeon.

Freshman Classes:
- Pre-IB / AP Government [2As, 2Bs]
- Computer Apps [4As]
- Pre-IB English [3As, 1B]
- Pre-IB Biology [4Bs]
- IB Pre-Calculus [3Bs, 1C :/ ]
- Pre-IB French [4Bs]

Sophmore Classes:
- Pre-IB English
- IB French
- AP US History
- AP BC Calculus
- Pre-IB Chemistry
- Honors Anatomy and Physiology [Elective]
- AP Music Theory

Took AP Govt, score not yet known, but from what I've heard, AP Govt doesn't matter to Dartmouth anyways...?

Will be taking the SAT II Biology in the fall

Unweighted GPA -> 3.46
Weighted GPA -> Unknown
Rank -> unknown

ECs include:
- 10+ years of Kumon Math and Reading Learning Center, currently in top
3% of students
- Indoor Track
- Outdoor Track
- Cross Country
- Drama Club [crew i.e. set construction, house crew, not mainstage stuff]
- Fellowship of Christian Athletes
- AGAPE
- 10+ years of piano, currently taking lessons from a Julliard graduate
- Member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, rated "Superior" for
school for summer school]
- Youth Group at church [also volunteering as technician / engineer weekly
during services, volunteering for children's VBS this summer]
- Various church mission trips

Planning on joining the school's newspaper this year!

I am planning to somehow get involved with volunteering at NIH or the Naval Medical Center as my dad works there.

I may become a Kumon instructor, however, I wish to complete the entire program [currently on level M, course ends at Q], and that will definitely take a couple more years. There is also a points system that accumulates test scores and enrollment length, etc. and a college scholarship is available once a certain number of points is achieved. [only $500, but I'll need all the help I can get. Plus, it'll be a personal satisfaction sort of thing :) ]

Dad went to George Mason, mom did not go to college but has taken a few community college classes....
Sister will be attending college when I apply as well.

Hobbies: [random, but w/e]
- Biking
- Running
- Photography
- Media associated projects [i.e. short films, documentaries]
- READING!

Haha, it's kind of scary to see my experience [or lack thereof] typed out. It makes me realize how far I need to go....
Anyways, tips, advice, suggestions... anything you've got would be great.

Thanks so much. Greatly appreciated.

Well the Newsweek ratings are b/s because its done completely based on the number of AP's a schools's students take. But you'll be taking a lot of AP's so thats good. Your GPA is a little bit low especially because 90% of the students there are in the top 10% of their class.

Definitely on the right track but be sure to do well on the SAT's and take leadership roles in extracirriculars.

unweighted gpa too low i know you have tough classes but so does
12000 out of the 14000 applicants...time for all As and a couple of bs
the rest of the way...im sure cousin and aunt may help and urm (under
represented minority) status helps but look back a few months and see
the gpa of the people accepted ...good luck and you do have time to show
an upward trend in grades which is impressive to admission officers

Just wondering why your pre-calc grades were unremarkable, especially considering your Kumon experience??

Ahhhh, yes. Well, Kumon tends to study units at different times than I'm learning them in school, so the two never really correspond. Plus, Kumon delves into units a little too deeply [I feel] so a lot of unnecessary time is spent learning one aspect of a unit.
I will definitely be receiving help outside of school this year to bring and keep my math grade up.
Thanks for the advice so far.

AP Calc BC moves very, very fast. My son found that everyday was something new in Calc. You should line someone up right from the start and meet with that person virtually daily.
