hey all, i'm a junior and i wanted to know if i am heading in the right direction for carolina

male, white, in-state
G.P.A= unweighted 3.5-3.6 (my freshman year school in Arizona didn't weigh grades, and i didn't do great in science)

Class Rank= somewhere in the top quarter, maybe top 15%

SAT 1= Math:590, reading comp.:640, writing:700 (i am retaking in june)

I am taking AP English III this year, and plan on taking AP Euro History, Art History, Statistics, Env. Science and English IV next year

i might take an SAT II in english or another focus area

EC: Writer's Club President, currently starting my school's first literary magazine
Environmental Club
Karate for 2+ years
about 300+ hours volunteering, church functions like soup kitchens, clothing drives etc.
French Honor Society
a few writing awards

i plan on joining more clubs/participating in more activities senior year

I want to go to carolina to study english, with a possible creative writing minor

well...i'm not trying to be harsh but here it comes..
I believe that it is a lot easier to get in since you are instate...however...UNC is still a great school....it would be very tough...also...your rank is kinda low...so hope that your test scores will bring it up...but it doesn't seem so....

If I were you, I would take the ACT and see which one I do better on, and focus on that test....also....remember to apply EA if that is your first choice....

I wouldn't do any more clubs. Quality not quantity is more important. Focus on the ones you have been involved with. Make sure you get leadership role in those ones by SR year.

Really pound the books your Jr. year it is almost over anyway. Jr. is the most important year I think. Get as high grades as you can. Take the SAT again, you need to get the CR and Math up to 1350 if you can. Some say ACT is easier.

Have faith, you are an instate male. Apply EA. Remember that there are many good NC state schools out there. If you don't make it your freshman year do well and transfer. Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the feedback.
Do you think that if i explained in an essay or side note that my Arizona school did not have any form of honors program or weighted grades, it would be considered making excuses?

and since i would be exempt from english 101 and 102, is it worth it to take the SAT II in language? would it help my chances?
