On the road to NY! Need some advice

Hello!

I know no one likes gigantic threads, so I'll try to keep it the shortest possible...

I justed turned 23, I hold a Busines Administration degree and I have a good job, but I'm willing to drop everything, leave my country and go to NY to pursue and artistic career. I've had some singing/acting training before and I know people at NY who can help me get ready for the auditions. I also have been to NY in the past and I love it.

Since I already have an undergraduate degree, a 2-year intensive program sounds the best option. So I thought:

FIRST OPTION
- CAP21 --> does not provide Student Visa, so I ruled out
- Circle in the Square
- AMDA --> I read so many negative opinions in the forum and outside the forum that I ruled out

In other words, it seems MY ONLY SHOT is Circle in the Square. Of course I'm not crazy to get such a risk, so I started searching and...

SECOND OPTION
- Neighborhood Playhouse focus in acting, but is has SOME singing too

THIRD OPTION
- Other acting studios such as Lee Strasberg, William Esper and Athlantic Theater (that don't have singing) PLUS vocal lessons with a personal teacher

FOURTH OPTION
- A master degree (MFA); does not seem a very good option because it's more for those who want to TEACH MT rather than for those who want to PERFORM

FIFTH OPTION
- Get some intensive training program in Music and take acting lessons separately (the Third option inverted); I dind't find any intensive programs like these though

So my question is: do my options make sense? Can you suggest me something different, am I thinking correctly? Any advice would be great. Thanks!!!

Well, I’m certainly no expert, but in my humble opinion, I think that moving to NY, getting a job so you can support yourself and taking separate voice, dance and acting classes seems to make the most sense. (Assuming you can get a work visa)

If you can’t get a student visa or a work visa, I don’t know how you will be able to legally stay in NY and support yourself. On the other hand, there certainly seem to be an awful lot of people here who don’t ever bother to get any visa at all, so I can’t see it being that difficult to find some sort of work/training combination.

tracyvp, my plan is to stay there for a 2-3 month preparation before the applications (with a tourist visa).

IF I succeed and enroll in a school, they provide the student visa. Otherwise, I have to come back. That’s why I’m trying to make the best plan possible so I broaden my chances of being admitted to at least 1 school and get the visa.

Well I know it isn’t much help but from my talking to admissions Cap 21 can start giving student visas anytime between now & fall 2012. I know its not much help but none the less

Not sure of specific options in NYC, but maybe don’t totally rule out a Masters. Meryl Streep got one and she’s done some performing. ;-D
