On track? Chance American student

Currently a junior in rigorous magnet program at US public high school

GPA - 4.0 uw, 4.55 w
SAT I - 2090, CR 660, M 690 W 740
SAT II US History 710, AP US History 5
ACT 33 - E33, M28, R34, S35 Essay 9

Current courseload includes AP Bio, APCalculus, APSpanish, Honors Chem

Will likely apply to Faculty of Arts & Science and Faculty of Science. I've looked at the admission standards for US high school students on the McGill website and see that my ACT score meets the minimum for both faculties, but my SAT score only meets the minimum for Arts & Science. I am thinking of retaking both my SAT and ACT one more time (the ACT primarily due to the 28 in Math, which I am afraid may be a bit low :-( I understand the admission standards are just a 'guideline,' so thought I'd post this chance thread.

McGill is by far my #1 choice!

I think you have a great chance. Your scores exceed their min. requirements.

100% in.

I would advice against Arts and Science actually, unless you want a “liberal arts” kind of education. It is very unstructured and sacrifices a lot of “depth”.

Taking into account McGills “send all scores” requirement – if I submit SAT II scores (which appear to be required for both Arts & Sciences and Science Faculties) does that then mean I have to send my SAT I score as well if I decide I’d like to apply based only my ACT score? Rephrased, can I send all of my SAT II scores, all of my ACT scores, and NOT my SAT I? I am planning on retaking my SAT, but I seem test better on the ACT, and am not overly confident that I’ll raise it a whole ton. (But I am doing some prep and trying to think positively!) I will probably try the ACT again as well…

I am re-reading the US high school admission requirements, and believe I may have misread them – is it correct that SAT II scores are ONLY required if you are applying based on your SAT I score, and if I decide to apply based only on my ACT score, that no SAT II’s are required?

Thanks again!

It appears that you submit the ACT with Writing

OR

SAT I and two SAT II scores

"You must have taken the following (unless applying only to Music):

•either the ACT or
•the SAT I plus at least two SAT IIs (see individual faculty requirements for SAT II subjects)."

Thanks TomofBoston! Based upon that, I could apply using only my ACT score (it included writing), but that 28 in Math makes me nervous, especially since I will be applying to the sciences. TomofB, if you don’t mind weighing in on my chances, the minimum ACT score is 26 – do you think 28 is a little too close for comfort?? As I said, McGill is my #1 choice, and I want to give myself the best chance possible.
