On track for getting into UMich (Ann Arbor)??

Hi! Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, I’m brand new here. My last post got flagged for unknown reasons (I had no profanity/links) so I’m trying this again! My apologies for making any mistakes before!

My last post was really long, so I’m going to try and shorten this one.

UMich has been my DREAM school for as long as I can remember, and I’m wondering if I may be able to get in by the time I am a senior based on my current stats? I am a sophomore. I know college is a little ways off, but I am a little worried right now.

Long story short I decided to take Honors Algebra 2 this year after finding that normal Geometry was too easy my Freshman year. I felt prepared to get an A. I was warned that many kids struggle in this class due to its structure, but I decided to take it anyway as I wanted to pursue honors in math (despite it being my weakest subject by far). My teacher does not teach lessons in class. We are expected to learn them on our own (new topic every 1-2 days). We only grade homework in class and have a 100 point test every week to week-and-a-half. As I mentioned before, math is my weakest subject and I need to see it/see it be explained in order to understand, so this on top of the frequency of our tests (it has been challenging to keep up with learning topics every week) has really hurt me. I got help from upperclassmen/Khan Academy once I realized I was struggling, but my fear of getting a B got the better of me and I panicked during a few tests and ended the quarter with an 83%. I don’t think I can raise this to an A by the end of the semester even though I am on track to get an A this quarter.

My confidence was already shaken when I got a B+ in Honors Physical Science, but I feel as though I can explain the complications that lead to this.

I feel as though I can get an A next semester now that I have a better handle on the class.

If my calculations are correct, I should have a 3.93 UW gpa by the end of this semester. If I get all A’s for the rest of HS, I believe I will have around a 3.94-3.95 UW if my math is correct. (Calculated on UMich scale)

Sorry this is so long, but any help will be VERY appreciated. I was really shaken after HPS last year, and this has pretty much knocked me off my feet. Any advice on what to do/my chances at getting into UMich based on how I am currently doing is greatly appreciated!!!

I think your stats are great. If you can achieve that 34-35 ACT you would have a strong chance. UMich is a large public school that receives many applications, so they don’t have much time to review all of these applications thoroughly and hence they focus much on numbers. You can even check their criteria on their common data set. So just nail that ACT and maybe add subject test to strengthen the application more and You are on the right track. Just be careful, standarized tests are unpredictable, I had many friends expecting high scores and got low scores and vice versa. I’m also Applying their Early action!
