On vs Off Campus Housing

Is it true that the off campus housing is way more expensive than on campus?
I am placed on the waitlist and should consider to apply for off campus.
Do you guys have any suggestion where should I live off campus?
I know some apartment like varsity, university view, enclave, towers, mazza.
But those apartment are expensive and I do not know which one to choose.

anyone? bump bump

I believe off campus housing is more expensive. On campus housing gives you more convenience, plus you don’t have to pay for utilities and the like! I don’t know if off campus housing will do the same.

I know the Varsity is a newer apartment complex. the View is very popular, and Mazza is farther away.

Yes, my parents were looking to buy a condo in the area which failed because they’re all pretty crappy in that area but since it was already past the deadline to apply for housing we looked at apartments instead. I didn’t really look at the ones targeted towards college students because the two we saw (UTC and one other) weren’t that great (much smaller than non-student apartments for same/higher price). If you want a decent 1 bedroom apartment it will run you around $1,200 to $1,500. The apartment complexes I’m considering are Seven Springs (~$1,200 1bed ~$1,500 2bed) and Westchester Park (~$1,500 1bed ~1,800 2 bed). Those are the costs with utilities and both complexes have UM shuttle stops. Housing in College Park is not cheap (spent 4 days visiting condos and apartment buildings which was not fun). I suggest trying to find a room mate which is what I’m trying to do. Not very easy when you don’t know a single soul who’s going to UMD. =[
