I'm about to schedule an interview for Rice and I have the option of having one on or off campus...

I only live an hour away from the campus, but I've already visited (multiple times). Does it matter if I get an on or off campus interview? I heard from a couple of my friends that off campus interviews are usually better, is this true?

That’s up to you… if you are that close, it might make more sense to do an on-campus interview.

My S had an on-campus interview (as part of one of their programs) and the lady he met with remembered him once he became a student.

Maybe your decision can be based on how truly interested you are in Rice. If it isn’t your top one or two choice, do off campus interview… (nothing to back this up, it just came to me :-).

Ah I think it may be better to do an on campus. I can never get enough of Rice anyway haha. Thank you!
Did your son also do a night over and/or lunch with a student? If so, how did those go?

S first visited Rice through the Research Rice program, which was one or two nights and other activities. He then came back for the Owl Days (admitted student weekend).

All went well and he is in his 2nd year at Rice and LOVES it!

I have heard that off-campus interviews with alums are really more relaxed and casual. You have a better time. However, you can’t put off on campus interviews with that because I haven’t heard anything about it. But I’d suggest on campus interview since it shows you are interested.

I don’t think it really matters, so pick the one that you want to do/is most convenient. On campus interviews are conducted by current students while off campus is by alums. One advantage of the former is that they can paint a very good and current picture of what life at Rice is like.
