ONE B - Can It Hurt?

So I got a B this semester in one of my college classes. It doesn't show up on my high school transcript, nor does it count towards my GPA. It's a separate college class I took. I got an A first semester. Would I have to submit the college transcript? And if so, would this one B negatively affect me? Since it is physics, what if I take the SAT II test and get an 800? Thanks!

You only have to submit that you took the class if you don’t want to take it again during college.

OP: do you assume that the colleges you’re looking at only accept 4.0 GPA students?

Your B won’t get you rejected. Your B won’t get you accepted. It’s a tad bit more complex than that you know.

Why don’t U read this?

ARE YOU SERIOUS!? -.-

Ask yourself this question. 1 B isn’t the end of the world…especially in a difficult class. In fact, college admissions tends to disfavor this type of persona.

Even if you didn’t get a 800 on the SAT II that’s fine. Just score high, but keep in mind your already doing well…;)

~ Theos

Colleges want to know that you are challenging yourself. Showing that you have already attempted (and passed) college-level courses is a plus–and far outweighs the “B” in the course–especially if you had an “A” your first semester.

Now if you were getting a “C” or “D”, that’s another story

oh my god. PLEASE get 1 B just to show colleges that you are, indeed, a human.

jesus, these people annoy me.

Yeah, I totally wouldn’t worry about it if I were you.

Yea, I actually have around an 89% …

Err… I’ve gotten 2 Bs (1 freshman year, 1 sophomore year). How much will this hurt me? >.<

sqd: Err… why don’t you consider the tone of what has already been written in this thread? It applies to you too.

Should have tried harder to get the A

It’s okay. Higher education isn’t for everyone.

Yes. When you apply to college you submit complete transcripts of all previous secondary-level and college-level academic work.

I’m sorry, but when it comes to top colleges, I was thinking there would be a significant difference between 1 B and 2 Bs.

sqdwfe: the top colleges practice holistic evaluation. Once a certain achievement level is attained, it goes to the intangibles. Me? I got Bs both semesters of Honors Chem which I took as a Junior (plus a handful here and there throughout my first 3 yrs). I applied to two Ivies and three top engineering colleges – with the mindset to do chem engineering. I was ranked about 12th in my class of 210 people. No great honors. My SATs were OK by Ivy standards (about the 30th percentile of matriculating students), and I’m Asian. I took the most rigorous classes possible and had massive leadership roles. I was admitted to all schools applied, eventually matriculating at one of the HYP colleges. I was definitely a “holistic” admit.

You will/won’t be admitted not on one or two Bs.

no (10 char)

Thanks, I’m starting to not care about it…
I was just worried since this was my first B ever.
But whatev, it was a very challenging class.
I’m just wishing I didn’t procrastinate.
oh well.
