Hey guys! Currently I have one B+ on my transcript for English. I am in 9th grade, and my unweighted GPA is 3.778 and my weighted GPA is 3.9584. Continuing with this track, will I be able to go for the Ivies, or Wash U?
Yes
First, I think schools generally look for an upward trend and some specifically do not look at grades for 9th grade. Second, at least at my daughter’s school, the only grades that count are final grades at the end of the year so you should still have time to turn the B+ into an A-. Finally, depending one the rest of your application, one B+ (or even two or three) is not going to shut any doors. Colleges will look at your whole transcript, including the rigor of your classes over 3 1/2 years.
Thanks, uesmomof2, however, that B+ was my first semester english grade. The 3.95 gpa was my first semester gpa.
It is too early to be thinking about any specific group of colleges. See how things play out over the next couple of years in terms of your grades, standardized tests, ECs etc. and then set your sights on colleges that fit your profile.
OP don’t stress. My son got three B+s his first semester 9th grade and he currently attends an ivy school (PENN). How you do the rest of high school, course selection and course rigor are what’s important.
Will you be able to? Yes.
Is it probable? No. Which is entirely unrelated to your B and rather to the fact that in 2019 applications will be in the 40000 range for Ivy League schools, leading to lowered acceptance rates.
I’d say focus on high school first before you become as obsessed, and subsequently crushed, as some of the posters on here.
