I’m a junior right now and last year I got a C in Algebra 2 but now in my math class (Trig-pcalc) I have an A. I was wondering will that C hurt me alot even if my GPA is still good when applying to Umich and NYU next year?

Apply early to UMich. I had a C in Alg2, a C in Economics (10th grade, college), and a C in Art 111 (Contemporary Art History, 10th grade), but I got in UMich.

Do u mind posting ur stats (generally not in detail or anything like that)?

I hope one bad grade won't hurt too much. I got a C+ in 2nd semester Algebra 2 honors, but it was in freshman year. I hope adcoms will give me a break and see that I really am good at math, enough to be moved ahead, and I had a beastly teacher. I can't help but wonder what my math grades would be like if I didn't skip a year. So, back to you, since you have an A now, they'll be able to see that you're trying hard and might just chalk up the C to having a tough teacher.

Sure. 3.5-3.6 UW GPA, 3.8 weighted GPA, 1320 SAT (680 V, 640 M).. uhmm.. 780-740-700 (SAT IIs.. Writing, World, U.S. History).. 5,4,3 on 3 AP exams.. uhh.. buncha ECs...

It will hurt, but it's redeemable.

thanks everyone for your comments
