My name is John and I moved from MD to NY in 9th grade. I had no idea we had Regents in this state until I took my first regents that year:Math A. I did terrible. My grade was a 78. My overall average in that class was a 76. However every other grade was an A and on B+. In tenth grade, I got all A's and a B in math. I also got an 84 on the MAth B regents but 90+'s on the rest. Now, I am a junior and am taking the most demanding courseload possible. I also attended lab camps at Cold SPring HaRBOR and have been accepted to Rockefeller's Science Outreach Program. I also played JV football, in Key AND FHA club and in track. I have over 200 hours of community service. Do I still have any chance at the top 25 universities with that one bad grade.

anyone??????????

btw my gpa in 9th grade was a 91, in 10th, 93 and in 11th 94

bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

please anyone give a reply

yes u have a chance. remember its not all a/b grades.

people get admitted to colleges with a few c's

No colege for you, i'm sorry.

Good Luck, tho

Jerod

will that one C ruin my chances at my dream school NYU, if all of my scores including SAT and SAT II's are good?

are you serious? seriosuly dude get out of here, it's one freakin C, thousands of young students get C's around the country. if that's what worries you, you gotta get your priorities in order.

Metallica rocks! i caint wait for their new CD!

same with system of a down

my name is _______ and i'm an alcoholic...

seriously, im from NY and the regents dont count for *. they're * easy. i got a 98 in physics (the only really hard one) and a 99 and 100 in global and Us history respectively. its a lowest common denominator type test. churn out a certain percentage every year and keep the really bad ones back. you're actual in class grades on the other hand...well, just get good SAT I and II scores, thats the best advice i can give you.

Ugh. Regents.

I have to agree with mediocretes in saying that the Regents are a complete waste of time. I've never had any difficulty with them and usually score in the high 90s; not that it really accounts for much, considering the fact that as long as you get above a 65, you're fine, trust me.

Regarding your in-class grades: Well, I'm not saying that C isn't going to affect your college admissions at all, but if there's any year where you really have to "mess up," it would definitely be freshman year. 9th grade grades don't account for that much in the long run, especially if you have an upward trend in grades. Judging from the rest of your post, I wouldn't really worry about it that much - you have great ECs! Just do well in junior year, and you'll be fine.

Conclusion: Yes, you do have a shot at many of the top 25. At least I think so.

Upward trend = good thing. I'd say you got a shot...but why focus on top 25 I don't know...
