One Bad Grade

I am a junior with a 3.96 UW high school GPA, with honors and AP classes. During my freshman year, I was selected for a special program where I took two classes at my local university, getting an A+ in one and a D+ in the second one. There is no real reason for the terrible grade - just stress, family issues, and not knowing the importance of it. Those classes aren't on my high school transcript and aren't factored into that GPA, which was calculated by my school.

My question is: will I have to send notify colleges about those classes and grades? Would the D+ destroy any chance at a top-tier school? What about pretty good schools, and my chances of merit aid at any level of school?

I believe your school does send records of those classes to college. It depends on where it was taken and what the class was, but it’s impressive enough to take college courses while a freshman in high school so I don’t see it hurting your chances too badly.

My guess is it won’t hurt at all. You were a HS freshman taking a college course, you’ve obviously matured and are a good student. I would be willing to bet it would not hurt you even in the slightest.
