You already have three 800s in SAT IIs, but they're all in the same general subject area -- say math and science. But you don't necessarily want to major in math or science in college. So you decide to take another subject test in a completely different area to show your versatility... but you think you may only get about a 650. Do you still take it? Or once you've gotten your three 800s is taking any more tests a dumb idea in general, no matter what you want to study in college?

You can go ahead and take it if you really want to. Colleges will only look at your top three anyway so its your choice and if you do bad, don’t worry about it. Which one are you thinking of taking?

Looking at top-top tier colleges (the usual suspects), and signed up to take World History to augment those aforementioned maths and sciences.

Yes, I’m aware that only the top three scores are reported on the app, but the entire testing history is on the official College Board report attached. That being said, how bad would, say, one 650 look next to those 800s?

If you’ve already got 3 top scores, why not just leave it at that? Colleges will ask for 3 scores at most, and you can show your “versatility” through other parts of your application (e.g. ECs, school courses, etc.)

yeah just cuz ur current SAT IIs aren’t necessarily in ur area of interest for college doesn’t mean it’s bad or anything. and since u got 800s, no problemo. =]
im wondering though, whyd u take SAT IIs that you have no interest in?

Our high school is a pre-engineering academy that prepares students incredibly well for all the math and science tests. Every other student here gets 800s in those. So if you’re that well-prepared for a test, why shouldn’t you walk in, take it, and accept your 800? That’s not personal arrogance talking; all credit goes to the school.

^i agree; i am in almost the same situation. However I’m going for 2 more SATs, i already have 3 in math and science and i’m doing one more in history and one more in physics. but i probably will be doing something that is more math-related :)

Some highly selective colleges suggest (or even require) subject tests in both math/science and English/history categories. So check the websites of colleges you’re interested in before you decide not to take the 4th exam.

:-) Don’t psyche yourself out. That’s an easy way to totally screw yourself up. Just do the best you can, and remember, a 650 isn’t the end of the world.
