How will one C affect my GPA!! Can I still go yo Harvard/Stanford/etc?
Depends upon what are your other grades, what level you are in HS, what type of class (honors/AP/IB) and if you have time to bump up that grade.
Remember that perfect GPA’s and test scores does not guarantee you a spot at any Ivy League school.
Do your best and get some help to raise that grade.
@gumbymom I’m at Choate rosemary hall and this is the first term of my freshman year. unfortunately i had a death in my family and it really affected my participation in one of my classes (an arts elective). i just want to ensure that this won’t bomb my academic career. i’m capable of doing well in the rest of my classes… this was just a really bad class for me : ( .
do you think that i’ll be able to bring my gpa up? i have time and work ethic.
If this is your first term as a Freshman, you have plenty of time to bring up your GPA. There are several colleges including Stanford and the California UC’s that will not use Freshman grades in their GPA calculation. You have a reasonable explanation for your low grade (condolences) so just continue to do well and everything will work out.
Shouting is not necessary.
If your other grades are Ds and Fs it will boost it.
If your other grades are As, it will lower it.
Not sure, most likely ETC.
I don’t think that one freshman year C rules out anything, but seriously calm down and live your life! Harvard and Stanford are not be all end alls. They should not even be goals. They are just colleges.
One C in an elective during a hard time in your life is not a problem. In fact I think it is good that you put your efforts into the core classes and not the elective. Also, in general if there are issues in your life causing school issues, your GC can mention that in their recommendations.
Fret not. See a counselor if necessary and do well in the future and you will be fine.
Harvard and Stanford are very good universities. There are hundreds of other very good universities. One C will not stop you from going to a very good university, particularly in an elective course freshman year of high school.
If you are a freshman in high school you should relax, pay attention in class and keep up with homework, have some fun with friends, and stay off of CC for a couple of years.
Freshman year may seem difficult, especially if you had a family death. You should have talked to your counselor about this. I’m sure they’d understand and tell your teacher to ignore those assignments you did poorly in. Now, I don’t know if you can say that because it may seem like an excuse to get a good grade. If this happens again, talk to your counselor ASAP!!! One C is not the end of the world. If it makes you feel any better, freshman year is the best of the high school years to get a C. I’m not saying you should get a C, but I’d rather get a C freshman year than senior, junior, or sophomore year (Fact: I did indeed get a C freshman year). Nowadays, I’m on a track where my GPA could reach close to a 4.0 again. So, again, calm down. It’s not the end of the world. Just make sure you don’t let this happen again and you should be fine.
