one crucial piece of advice--

DO NOT--i repeat DO NOT--take an 8:00 class. those will **** up everything. you might be thinking, "classes in hs started at 7:30, so i can deal with classes starting at 8 in college". WRONG. in high school, you usually had no reason to be up until 2 in the morning, and you always had your parents there to tell u to get to school. in college, its up to you to get your ass up and get to class. if you sleep through your alarm, your whole day is ****ed up.

going to class after only 4 hours of sleep makes everyone groggy and annoyed.

dont take 8 am classes if you can avoid them...just dont. unless you're masochistic or otherwise crazy

i second that COMPLETELY. 2000%. 8 am or 830, either ones suck.
(i have an 830 and i'm a commuter...waking up at 530 to make class because of traffic, etc, really just sucks. and i'm sure living on campus would suck just as much because 8/830 is just a bad time)
but yes, i agree

Eh...9 is too early. I'm exactly one week into school, and have already missed a 50 minute 9am lecture because I woke up at 8:55 (and have a 25 minute walk to class). I really need to get a real alarm clock because phone alarms are too easy to ignore. Sometimes there's no choice, since core classes always seem to be offered ONLY early in the morning. Next quarter though- nothing before 10.

psh in highschool you do too have a reason to be up until 2...
many other people at my school and i have to do it and still get to school at 7:30

I have an 8 am class. It thoroughly sucks.

There aren't any 8 AM classes at my school. :)

I only have an 8 am class two days a week, but it's easily my most boring class. Not a good combination.
I don't recommend a class at 4 that goes until 5:30 either, at least not after a 4 hour break. Again, a boring class, and miserable to sit through when you'd rather be eating dinner, or attacking the pile of homework.

Good advice. 9 is the earliest, 10 is preferable. If you have an 8 or 7 o'clock class have a shotgun ready.

Haha I agree, but for some, early classes make the day better.

Yeah I really disliked 8 am classes. I had one art class that went from 8-1030 on mondays and wednesdays and i don't know how many times i showed up at 915. haha.

Here most GE's are 8 or 9AM classes so no choice really. I made myself a perfect schedule though. Earliest class I ever have is 10AM Fridays. On Mondays and Wednesdays I don't have class until 2PM (though I have work study before that) and on Tuesdays I start at 1PM.

As far as I am in college, it's less work here than my HS was, and I'm not taking a freakishly light load--Calc, Econ, Creative writing and literature, and a foundations seminar. I had way more nights staying up past 2am in HS than I've had here.

on the other side of the no early classes argument, none of my classes are earlier than 11am, and it makes it really difficult to get up earlier than 10:30--i'd say a 10am class is the best. I'm also lucky enough to have no classes on tuesdays, and only a quiz hour on thursdays.

I have a 9am class. Way too easy to brush that one off too.

In an effort to get my transfer faster, I took 7:45 AM classes all summer. I can't recommend doing it.

Mine start at 10 am which is fine for me although I always stay up too late anyway.

Yes, I also agree to that. Shoot, 9 AM is way too early, especially four days a week...it is so tempting to skip, though I have not done so yet.

11 AM is a good time.

over the summer i had a 9 am class.. making it to class was pretty easy but getting to the dining hall was impossible on most mornings

no classes for me until 10:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays, no classes until 11:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and one class at 1:00 on Friday. I love my schedule :)

Also, if you can possibly avoid it--don't take any two-hour-long classes. Two hours is just too long to be stuck in the same class.

I have a 7:30am class 4 days a week! it sucks, but you know, it is possible. One of those 7:30 classes is my engineering lab, probably the most stressful class period i have. But i haven't missed a 7:30 class yet. all you need is some self discipline and coffee.
