The situation:
Because of a new (internet) format of my math class last semester, half the class didn't finish in one semester, so the college gave us the option to finish by march 4...however, over winter break, they reformatted the program. Because of this new format, I'm pretty sure I'm going to fail the class. At the moment I have a 4.0 college GPA, and I was looking to transfer to a school like USC or William & Mary...how much would one F affect my transcript if everything else was a 4.0? Also, because the class isn't technically college level, the cc I'm at would still list my GPA as a 4.0....
So, my question is, would I still have a chance at those schools? Or should I set my sights lower?

i think you should explain to the adcom like you explained in here.

You try hard to get a 4.0 GPA and just because of some misfortunate , you will let the chances sliding away?

And I think WP is better than F.

thanks, but what is WP?

Withdraw – passing

Also, USC looks at all grades, and recomputes GPA.

I’m not sure what you mean. You said half the class couldn’t finish in one semester. Why not? Why weren’t you part of the half that did?

If this was truly your college’s fault perhaps you can ask them to take it off your transcript.

I actually don’t know how many people couldn’t finish, I just know that it was a significant enough number to justify the extension. The reason people didn’t finish was because there was no guidelines on the class- people would ask the professor where they should be and he would give a non-commital answer. There was no schedule or anything…

anyway, I emailed him and asked, and he said that if I chose not to finish, or simply couldn’t due to the reformatting that it wouldn’t affect my transcript, and that it would be as though I never took a math class that semester.

Well I’d go with that rather than risk a bad grade. It would set your math back a semester but that’s better than an F imo.

I don’t know if this applies to all schools but, when I attended CC any classes I took that weren’t college level were not listed on my transcript. Potential schools could see them if I chose to send them an “All History” transcript, say if I wanted them to know I took developmental courses, but it wasn’t required. I’d talk to a counselor about that before you get into a tizzy :)

If you will have less than 30 credits, most schools will want to see your SATs. It sounds to me like you were taking a remdial class. I think the combination of low SAT and not finishing remedial work is going to be a problem. You may need more time in CC

My SATs were above the normal average, but below the College Confidential average, if that makes sense:p
I was already planning to attend the summer session of CC and then apply in the fall of sophomore year…

I didnt mean to be insulting, it was just that you indicated you were taking a math class that was not college level.
