One last chance... waiting on Brown ED

Hi to all,

Just sitting here, waiting on Brown's decision on my ED application. Feel free to chance.

Background: I'm a junior at a top Illinois public school. I skipped the second and third grades but went back a grade for athletics when I transferred to a public middle school. My ADHD really affected my freshman and sophomore years as it went untreated, but with medication I've really been able to buckle down and get some really good work done.

Ethnicity: My mother's a second-generation Puerto Rican/Spaniard and my father's a complete mutt--Eastern European/Russian/Ashkenazi Jew, etc.

GPA: (W on 5.00 scale, since classes were all honors/AP)
Freshman--3.80 (My freshman year was completely mediocre--see above--with a 3.80/5.00 while in all honors classes. I think that was mostly due to the ADHD, an elongated acclimation period and my immaturity compared to my peers.)
Sophomore--4.05
Junior--4.90
Senior--(current semester) 5.00

Class Rank: 32/630

AP's: Junior--AP English Lang/Comp (5 on test), APUSH (5 on test)
Senior--AP English Lit, AP US Gov't, AP Comp Gov't, AP Psych, AP Physics C, AP Stats, AP Calc AB

EC's:
-three year class council member
-baseball soph/jun/sen
-club baseball every summer
-swimming frosh
-1st chair alto sax in wind symphony frosh/soph
-1st chair alto sax in jazz band frosh/soph/jun

-volunteered for Habitat for last two summers
-internship at major engineering firm next summer
-eucharistic minister and minister of care for Archdiocese of Chicago
-summer courses at Northwestern University

Honors:
-National Honor Society jun/sen
-Foreign Language Honors jun
-English Honors jun
-Science Honors jun
-National Merit Finalist (guess my grades were a bit low, lulz)

Standardized Tests:
-AP Comp--36 (36 R, E, S; 35 M)
-SAT--2380 (800 CR, 800 W, 780 M)
-PSAT--236 (National Merit Finalist)
-SAT II: US History: 800; Math II: 790; Physics: 780

Recommendations:
-Editor for my newspaper
-School psychologist/counselor
-Former swim coach/current AP Psych teacher

Thanks, everybody!

You have perfect test scores, great grades, etc. You are a great applicant, so it depends on how you conveyed yourself in your essays. Being an ED applicant, I would be surprised if they didn’t take you.

It’s good. You will get in.

Also, you applicants scare me when I’m lurking the forums because I’m also applying ED. Applicant pool looks tough this year!

^Great chance. Is there a reason you only took 2 ap’s junior year? Other than that, great app. If your essays are at least an (8 out of 10) your probably in. But then again its Brown, so don’t get your hopes up too much. Good luck :)

as a junior, unless one is completely suicidal, the only real options for AP courses are APUSH, AP English Comp, Calc AB/BC, Econ, and Psych. my schedule was full–our newspaper requires editors to take a class to work on the paper during the day, and I was also taking an architecture/civil engineering course. hahaha so, here i am, stuck with just two APs junior year.

You have a good change and I really hope you get in.
Best of luck.

^^@op, I hope Brown understands your situation. I also hope you told them this or your counselor understands this, because if your counselor didn’t check off the “most rigorous” box in course rigor, that could be homicidal to your chances at brown.

You stand a really solid chance of getting in! Your credentials scare me a bit! Hope we can be classmates :)

Can you chance a fellow Brown hopeful back?

@tomato–
she did. THANK GOD. i’ve taken nothing but honors classes, and only a few out of our class of 630–think like ten or eleven kids–took more than two APs this year.

@dreamer–
gotcha! thanks!
