One mediocre semester

I have always maintained a high GPA (3.7+), but last semester I didn't do as well academically, getting a B+ in all my classes and my GPA dropped down to a 3.6.

Should I try to explain this in the additional info section of the commonapp? ie. I was sick with mono and my illness prevented me from doing as well in classes as I would have otherwise?

I have 5A+ on my midterm report for the current semester (which are all classes within my major), so I could point to that as evidence that I am still a hard worker and a good student.

You can comment on factors like illness in the Additional Comments section of the CA, and also include a statement from your physician for support.

I don’t have a physician’s report as I was studying abroad during the semester. Is that still okay?

It would be stronger if you had some sort of documentation: bills, prescriptions, report from your abroad school, etc.

Not sure how they are going to feel about a report of an illness for a .1 gpa drop when there is no supporting evidence.
