One Month Left For FEB ACT!

Hey guys!

I have about one month left until I take my first ACT on February 11. What do you recommend I should use to study for this? I have never prepared for the ACT (I only took the PLAN a few times and my scores were just average). Any suggestions on what to buy that will teach me the material and format of the test AND provide me with actual tests?

Thank you all in advance!

Anyone? It would be greatly appreciated

It’ll be a crunch! I would recommend taking a few practice tests. :)

I would start out with the Real ACT Prep Guide, ACT puts it out… One of the big things to learn is time mangament… (I am speaking my myself). Also, knowing the material helps to… :)

Thank you cantstopwontstop and slnich! Are any of you familiar with princetons crash course for the ACT?

I am not…Red Book and McGraw Hill are what I’m using right now, but I’ve heard Priceton is good :)

Oh okay thank you. Have you taken the ACT before?

I use the red one too… Kaplan is also good… I was looking at one of my teacher’s prep books and I think it was Kaplan… Which was my favorite… It uses terms that are easy to understand… It is kinda the way “teens” talk… Yes, I have taken the ACT 3 times my fourth is February… :)

I used the Princeton Review book for 4 weeks, and I did examples on Saturday only. The Princeton book was great. I did a different section each week haha. =P

Also, I don’t know if you care but, I scored well on the ACT and these are my tips:
-Focus on time A LOT, especially if you’ve been preparing for the SAT; the timing is totally different, and you’re required to work a lot faster for the ACT, especially if you plan on finishing. The first practice test I took, I found myself rushing (because the # of q’s surprised me), but also making stupid mistakes. Look out for those.
-KNOW THE MATERIAL ON THE MATH SECTION because it goes in further than the SAT does. However, there are less “tricks” in the questions on the ACT, and I found them to be more straightforward than the SAT.
-The Writing Section- know your rules. All I can say! =] I finished this one (and Math) the quickest of all sections.
-The Critical Reading: I don’t really have tips, because it’s my worst section. Poop. =P I know that you really need to time yourself really well here, because I found myself running out of time towards the end. I also tend to get distracted while reading passages (ADD? Lol). Having taken an AP English exam helps! THIS SECTION IS ALL ABOUT PRACTICE THOUGH!
-Science: If you take interest in the articles, or like science, you’re probably better off than most. Other than that, all you need is basic science knowledge, the ability to read charts/graphs, and put 2 and 2 together. It’s like the CR, with charts and graphs also thrown in. Once again, time yourself. I found that unliek the CR though, I wasn’t getting distracted on this one. Probably because I like science though haha.

I personally did better on the ACT, and thought it was because the ACT is easier, but I really think it depends on “which test is better for you.” I know people generally score higher on the ACT, but I also know someone with a 2390 who got a 33 (both great scores, but clearly the SAT is AMAZING!).

Best of luck!

Good luck to you slnich! And awesome post hopewishcry! Thank you for the tips, I think you and I have a lot in common when it comes to critical reading! Haha!
