The robotics stuff is cool, and it seem like you've done very well. Consider making that the theme of your essay. Your SAT verbal and writing scores could be higher, but I think you've got a solid GPA and great ECs. Go for it.

EC's---great. SAT's---eh. They're good, don't get me wrong, but perhaps not high enough regarding Columbia's standards to really help you out. My SAT's are lower than avg. too though. Oh well. Fingers crossed.

c some say that it helps applying ed but i dont know how true that is cause the ppl at admissions and somewhere on the columbia website it says that they wont accept any student ed if he or she is not qualified to be accepted during rd... i dont know if they are just saying that so ppl wont apply ed just to have an edge or if they really mean it. The stats say that a higher percent of students get in ed but that could also be because the kids who apply ed are stronger candidiates and are truly devoted to columbia.

Arlington - it's both. Yes, the ED applicants are a self-selected group that tends to have strong fit as well as performance, but at the same time it IS slightly less competitive than RD. An admissions officer confirmed this - applicants that might be a 'borderline' admits in RD have a chance of possibly being pushed over that line during ED. This is because Columbia has more power in shaping the student body during ED as virtually 100% of admitted students will attend.

well your SATs are a bit low but they're only one piece of the puzzle; i definitely would not rule out columbia. you definitely still have a shot. good luck!
