Finances: EFC 10k, willing to make it happen if a school costs 15-16k / yr before loans however a school where I can get significant merit aid will be at the top of my list (trying to not accrue more than 20,000 in debt after graduation)

Once you get your ACT scores back (Tuesday??) we can better give you advice.

Will you also be taking the Nov SAT? If not, sign up!!! Just in case ACT score or Oct SAT scores aren’t high enough.

Right now, going to an OOS public without big merit is unlikely.

However, if you could get a high ACT or a higher M+CR SAT, you could get some big scholarships.

Re…the SAT…many schools only use M+CR for scholarship purposes, so sometimes it’s easier to study/practice those 2 sections to get those scores higher…hence the recommendation to also take the Nov SAT.

Let me give you an example…

If you major in some kind of engineering or computer science…and you get your ACT up to a 30 or your M+CR SAT up to a 1330… Then you would get this from Bama…

Students who have a 30-31 ACT or 1330-1390 SAT (math and verbal scores only) and at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA will receive a tuition supplement to bring their University-level scholarship offer up to the value of tuition. In addition, they will receive $2,500 per year for four years. Must apply by Dec 1st.

So, by just getting 20 more points on your M+CR SAT and majoring in engineering, then you would get free tuition (including out of state) and $2500 per year…this offer is worth over $90k. Amazing!

In case you didn’t know, Bama has a brand new mega-sized Science and Engineering Complex…state of the art and gorgeous.

Congratulations on your ACT score. Rice is an outstanding university, however it is not likely that you would be awarded any significant scholarship money from them, if you were accepted. It is highly selective.

I think Alabama is a great suggestion. You may also want to look at Clemson. I know they have scholarships based on SAT scores so maybe they have something for ACT as well.

if you can get your SAT up to 1350 or ACT up to 31 and get into the top 10% of your high school, look at Clemson! Depending on how competitive the freshman class is, you may be able to qualify for in state tuition. (but usually those are the guidelines)

Edit: Never mind, I just saw that you got a 33 on your ACT (congrats!). Now work on that class rank stat!
