One More Rec Than Required

Did anyone send in more than two recs for Chicago? I sent one from a history teacher of three years and one from a math teacher with whom I was most sociable of all math/science instructors. But the rec which I felt would be my strongest was that of my AP Latin teacher, so I sent that in as well, giving him the Social Studies/English form to use.

Just to make sure, Chicago will read all recs, correct? If not, it's not a big deal because I will ask my Latin teacher to send out the same rec to other schools later.

If they are usual teacher rec's I'd have advised just to do the two you think will be best, (Latin/Math?) not to throw a 3rd in just because you'd like more strong recs, but because you have an area where you have an unusual interest or talent. However, I think Chicago is flexible on this point; I wouldn't want to push it and bog them down with paper, though.

My dd sent 3 as well one science one english, but the third was from a mentor in an academic field that she will have been involved with going on 4 years and has publications and awards in, so we felt (hope?) it was warranted.

bettina,

Chicago requires strictly one rec from an English/Social Studies teacher (no foreign language) and one from a Mathematics/Science teacher. Regardless of whether I thought Latin was my strongest, I could not have sent it in any other way than as an extra (although its supplementary status isn't declared anywhere on the form).

I sent in 3 recs because my theory of knowledge class is really different etc. anyways, i e-mailed chicago about it and they said we were supposed to have the teacher send a letter either on school letterhead or with their signature and with the applicant being discussed clearly marked. I hope they count whatever you did, because they did have a specific way of sending in extra recs.

I simply printed out another recommendation form, had my Latin teacher fill that out, and send the rec along with it. Perhaps not the smartest idea. :( Would it do any good to e-mail them now and clarify which letters are my primaries and which the extra?

I think they will figure it out just fine...don't email. Yes I now remember why she sent an extra too was because the 3rd rec was in sci, but not the chem/bio/physics trio so she didn't know if it would count that way, so she had physics teacher do one too.

Hey, this is a tad late, i guess, but I did that too. I had two lit teachers who know me well and one obligatory ap biology teacher. I emailed to make sure itw as ok, they jsut said that its ok to do that if we think that each teacher will portray different aspects of our personality. You're fine!
