I did this for my apps too. I find it easiest to just set it as a tab on my home page so when I open up my browser I can see right away if I received anything important. My email was professional to begin with but having a separate account just for college stuff made it easy to see when something important came (like it will for my EA decisions next week :D).

That was smart. Did you find that you got all (or mostly) mail from the colleges you were applying to, or did this address also attract a lot of unsolicited mail from schools you weren’t interested in or from other college-related services?

Parents are involved because when most of us were in college things were still done via an admissions office. You lined up to sign up for classes. Your schedules were entered by a human being other than yourself and any conflicts, if not discovered by your counselor prior to enrolling, were discovered by the department in charge of scheduling.

Now things are on line and students are expected to do things independently. The counselors are there for guidance and advice but not for help with actual enrolling or admitting. You could, theoretically, enroll in a school and never see a human face to face until the first day of class.

Thus, parents are simply stepping in and doing what was done for them by the administrative staff 20-30 years ago.

honestly, getting a blackberry and having my email accounts synched to it was one of the best decisions ever, ill always know when i get an email from a school very soon after it gets to my inbox :)

LOL @ “KeggerBabe69.”
