One or the other?

CSU Sonoma (Sonoma State) vs UC Santa Cruz.

Need help putting things into perspective. Which one would really give me more opportunities. Both campus are beautiful; both of their social atmosphere is definitely there. Sonoma has one of the best dorms (apartment style with their villages) and Santa Cruz has its residential colleges to live in. Both have LGBTQ club, which means that I can be comfortable in both campuses. Santa Cruz is diverse, but has some of students from my school that goes there. Sonoma is not diverse, but no one from my school goes there. Sonoma has my major of interest (Kinesiology), but UC Santa Cruz have a major that interested me from the start (Marine Biology w/ great summer abroad to Australia for research). Both campus are an hour to two hours away from SF, so its not that close to home, but close enough during breaks (less transportation costs).

I'm trying to weigh what are the pros and cons in each, but I keep going back and forth and in terms of Financial Aid, both are covering it in terms of scholarships, grants, work study and student loans. I'm relieved that my mom don't have to take out loans! Well anyways, I really want to go to graduate school and pursue physical therapy (if I go to Sonoma) or veterinary medicine (If I go to UC Santa Cruz). Which college do you think will give me more opportunities in terms of the major I'm going to be involved in? I felt like Santa Cruz has more opportunities for me than Sonoma in terms of internships. Anyone want to help me out put things in perspective?

I would go to the one with the highest average SATs

^that's hardly a good thing to base a college choice on...

If based on GPA, Santa Cruz is clear winner. But Sonoma, even with a lower SAT, can be really good choice. But then again there's Santa Cruz. Anyone else have any input?

Browsing through the forum, it seems like Marine biology is not really good to major in undergrad since it is so specialized? Any input on this?

Typical for many College Confidential members. One would assume that prospective college students/graduates have more wisdom than that. But that's often not the case here.

You would expect someone with a 2000 post count to not be so stupid...

I'm bumping pls

Go to UCSC UNLESS you prefer a smaller school environment.

Don't worry about seeing kids from high school, UCSC is a big school with an eclectic mix of students. It's a vibrant place to be and the 3 current students I know who go there love it.

I personally think Sonoma is a great place and was hoping my daughter would go there, but she wanted something bigger and more "exciting". LOL. It's possible my son will end up there in a couple years though.

I agree that there may be more opportunities in UCSC than Sonoma. I'm starting to get impression from Sonoma that using drugs is normal there considering from what I hear from their Facebook. Nevertheless, I like Sonoma's smaller size, but I'm starting to lean to UCSC. If I decided to go there, would it be wise to go Biology major instead of Marine Biology to broaden my possibilities for graduate school? Or does it even matter what major I pursue if I'm going to grad school for Vet/Physical Therapy?

The SAT range at UC Santa Cruz is 130 points higher than at Sonoma State. This is a no-brainer. Go to UC Santa Cruz if you got in. No contest.

Anyone else have any input? Now I'm back in considering Sonoma because of Kinesiology major, large dorms, and smaller than most CSUs and UCs. But I like UCSC equally. Anyone else want to help me out?

You're basically repeating the same stupid thing you said in your first statement, but with slightly more detail this time...

Gravitas3-
Fortunately, jerks like you are rare on CC.

130 SAT points is huge.

That's not the point..you still don't get it do you?

Oh yeah and if by jerk you mean someone who points out the obvious....yeah, I guess I'm a jerk.
