Which is more preferable?
-Having an amazing SAT score [say 2350] ,a 4.0+ GPA, and tons of AP classes [about 9-15] w/ fives on AP exams, but meager ECs
-OR-
-Having a decent/ almost high SAT score [say 1900-2100], a 4.0+ GPA, couple of AP classes [5-6], but stellar ECs

Thanks In Advance!

Just curious, but when you say AP classes, do you mean 9-11 or all of high school?

I mean all of high school…It would mind-blowing to take it in just one or two years… [Wow…but i’ve heard of people that have actually done that]…no, but I mean in all of High school…

I’d choose the first one. Remember that college is mostly about learning, so your GPA plays a big role.

I disagree with afraidtoapply, I had a friend who got into every single one of HYPM with a 2.1 GPA thanks to him winning USAMO, so #2.

Safer route would be #1. It’s basically impossible to gauge just how stellar your ECs are in comparison to academics if you don’t personally know an adcom. Ideally of course, you should have a blend between the options.

2 if stellar means a medal at the olympics or publishing a NYT bestseller, #1…most colleges (other than the tippy tops) minimally care about ECs if you have great SATs
