I really like Williams and it's very likely that I'll apply early decision. However, I have one question that's been nagging me for a while: why does college ******* give Williams a C+ for girls and a C for boys? I know that it's shallow, but is there any accuracy behind this?

Note: I'm not going to decide to go to a college based on the subjective attractiveness of its students. I'm just wondering why the rating is so low.

I think rating schools vis-a-vis the pulchritude of the students is a bit crass; that said, no obvious differences between Williams and, say, Princeton or Amherst.

I wouldn’t sweat it. I mean, it is not an SEC or Southern California school where you have tons of gorgeous, sun-tanned people walking around, dressed to draw attention to themselves … folks spend a lot of time in the library, there isn’t a lot of sun, and you won’t see a ton of revealing clothing (by virtue of both weather and school ethos). But, Williams is a place full of generally healthy, vibrant, outdoorsy, and in many cases (not my own, sadly) athletic people, and I don’t think the student body is materially different, in terms of appearance, than other similar schools (Dartmouth, Amherst, Bowdoin, etc., although I will say Midd always seemed to have a ton of really good looking people for some reason …).

Okay, look at is this way: Say Williams has especially unattractive students (which I don’t personally believe…similar schools generally have similar students by many measures, including that of attractiveness), you’ll consequently look more attractive in comparison, no? And even if Williams’ students are unattractive on average there are still almost certainly going to be some decent-looking to attractive individuals of the opposite sex. And if you, yourself are decent-looking to attractive (a rating which will be augmented by your comparatively less attractive peers) you will likely end up with the decent-looking to attractive members of the opposite sex. And if you’re not decent-looking to attractive yourself…well, then the school you go to isn’t the issue…

TL;DR It doesn’t matter. Focus on getting in, and then on picking the right school for you.

And on a side note, yay Williams applicants of 2012 I love it too.
